The World Customs Organization (WCO) has approved a new plan to boost global security and economic stability by improving collaboration between customs and businesses. This plan, led by Australia, emphasizes the need for strong backup plans, better data sharing, and adopting digital and paperless practices. Classification of new technology items can be tricky. Despite the WCO Harmonised System being updated every few years, it is always lagging behind the latest technology developments. In his latest article “Customs classification – the grass is always greener on the other side”, Omer Wagner discusses a recent judgement by the Israeli magistrate court on the classification of industrial robots. The article also explores the topic of what happens when both sides of a customs dispute, the trader and customs authorities, use binding tariff rulings issued by third countries to support their respective positions. 💥💥Indian Customs has implemented a new registration called Express Cargo Clearance Systems (ECCS)💥💥 ❄The express industry is emerging as the major engine of growth in international commerce with integrated supply chains and fast delivery of goods to the customers’ doorstep. The ECCS was launched in 2017 for the electronic clearance of courier consignments. It is a highly efficient and robust system catering to the fast-paced growth of this sector. This technology driven system has contributed successfully towards increasing trade volumes, eliminating paperwork and reducing dwell times, resulting in clearance of consignments within a few hours. It has offered a great fillip to the e-commerce industry in India and ensured hassle free delivery and pick-up at the door-steps of importers and exporters. ❄ECCS is an application that enables automated clearances in the express mode. ECCS is an automation programme to carry out clearance process under the Courier Imports and Exports (Electronic Declaration and Processing) Regulations, 2010. This system is currently operational at nine ICT locations i.e. Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi Ahmedabad, Chennai, Cochin, Jaipur , Kolkata & Hyderabad and planned to be rolled out at the remaining locations in a phased manner.
