Have we told you about the RARE Book Club? We meet monthly to discuss #RARE books, curated to enhance personal and professional development and encourage growth in areas like leadership, emotional intelligence, and resilience. Our book club discussions touch on topics like leadership, personal development, and effective communication. You'll have an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who are also focused on growth and development! We wanted to build a supportive community around a love of reading where members encourage and motivate each other, fostering a sense of accountability and shared growth. In November and December we'll be discussing "The Color of Emotional Intelligence: Elevating Our Self and Social Awareness to Address Inequities," penned by the visionary, Farah Harris, MA, LCPC. As a lover of books, expanding the BSRI book club has been such a fun experience for me! Shawneaqua Edwards, MSPH, CGW and I, through our discussions, gained fresh insights into what it means to lead with heart, empower others, and grow professionally, each in our own individual roles. These books reminded us that professional development isn’t just about gaining skills—it’s about deepening our values and strengthening our impact on those around us. Leadership takes many forms, and embracing our unique style makes us more effective. By cultivating empathy, resilience, and authenticity, we build stronger, more trusting teams. Professional development is a journey, and our book club is an incredible part of it! What’s on your professional development reading list? Let me know your favorite leadership reads below! 👇 #Leadership #ProfessionalDevelopment #BookClub #GrowthMindset #AuthenticLeadership #BSRI
Members of our team just wrapped up our Leadership Book Series, culminating in the creation of each of their own unique leader personas. The book club allowed members to explore and define their leadership types, personality, motivations and goals. The group read two books: 📖The Nine Types of Leader by James Ashton 📖The Art of Caring Leadership by 💜Heather R Younger, J.D., CSP® One of our favorite insights? “Brands with purpose grow, companies with purpose last, and people with purpose thrive.” Special thanks to Melanie Gonzalez and Shawneaqua Edwards, MSPH, CGW for sharing their perspectives!

☕️ Here's an entry from the Small Batches library: "The Organization is Perfectly Designed". From Leadership is Language (2020): We need to always remember that the organization is perfectly tuned to deliver the behavior we see, and the people’s behaviors are the perfect result of the organization’s design. The author channels many systems thinkers in this passage. Comment below on this applies to your daily work.

I found Gary Burnison's book 'Love, Hope, and Leadership' to be fascinating, as it offers fresh insights into leadership. It was thought-provoking to explore leadership from different perspectives such as potential, inclusion or connection. One of my key takeaways from the book is this sentence: "Leadership is about inspiring others to believe and enabling that belief to become reality.' If the belief refers to personal talents, ideas and aspirations, then leadership can be seen as empowering others.

Last month I’m enjoying the posts of Natasha Bonnevalle. I love the artwork and inspiration with the insights she shares with us. This particular post I found really interesting. Knowing yourself or others will define who you are. It triggers me, how do we define ‘knowing ourselves’ ? At first glance it sounds so easy, knowing who you are. In real life it’s a queste. Sometimes you can’t see the true you, yet. Absorbed by norms, values, roles and believes that we’ve collected at an early age. Defining our behaviours and actions. Until it doesn’t feel right anymore. Hitting the same wall over and over again, certain life-events that make us see the world through a different lens and ofcourse aging. In life we do collect new experiences, knowledge and discover different needs. Norms are changing and even true believes can shift a little bit. We evolve. What interests me is that not everybody is on the same queste. I do believe everyone of us, will face a stage in life contemplating about this, but some people get through it very quickly while others can spend decades. Both is fine, but in terms of leadership, interesting to acknowledge. Not all of us want to do a deepdive into our souls. Maybe because it’s too painful or life is good enough, as it is. We need to respect that and think about it. Sometimes leaders are not there (yet). I believe you need to know yourself (a little bit) to lead others. The questions is to what extend? I’m already quite happy if leaders: ⭐️ Truly understand that intent doesn’t equals impact (based on the feedback they receive). ⭐️Or master some EI practices to walk in someone’s shoes and understand better why people respond in the way they do. ⭐️Or understand that the course of life decides your worldview and offered you other opportunities than some other people. But for me it doesn’t mean that we all need to deep dive into our inner child and/or do systemic work. A tendency I sometimes see in leadershipcoaching and programs. Yes, I found it very helpful to understand this, from where I’m coming from. And I respect that some people never want to go there. Sometimes we forget, due to our own experiences and believes. Intent doesn’t equals impact 😉.

“The world will ask who you are, and if you don’t know, the world will tell you.” (Carl Jung) 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. As a leader, knowing yourself is crucial. But knowing yourself is not enough. You also need to pro-actively share stories that help others see you as you are. If you don’t define who you are, others will impose their definitions on you. If you don’t share your own stories, others will share their stories about you. (Day 23) For one month, I will post art and a quote, text, or poem, highlighting an important aspect of leadership. #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #storytelling #authenticleadership #leadershipidentity
