The Future of Internal Audit...

This took quite a bit of brainpower to get through, but it is an interesting read if you work in Internal Audit. Referencing Sisyphus in the title might paint a bleak picture (as you may recall, he’s the fellow in Greek mythology who was sentenced to an eternity of rolling a stone up a hill only to have it roll back down before it reached the top), but I thought the conclusion and acknowledgment of the constant task of “deparadoxifying” Internal Audit was relatable. The author concludes: 1- Internal Auditors “are to be both independent and fierce warriors, and consoling and warm” 2-Internal Auditors are “both part of the organization, and separate from the organization.” 3-Internal Audit’s “performance was mainly presented through their audit report which was to be critical and insightful, but not too critical.” “In other words, the work of the internal auditors is a constant balancing act.” — Ingrid Gustafsson Nordin #internalaudit

Internal Audit Month is about celebrating the value internal auditors bring to the organizations they serve. But as I shared in a recent blog, we have to get past some stereotypes before that can happen. This week am re-sharing my thoughts on why many clients find the internal audit experience cringe worthy. It can be everything from the culture of the organization to their experiences with another internal auditor long ago. Check out the blog in case you missed it. #internalaudit #perceptions #corpculture #iiamay https://lnkd.in/eWMMgNqU

Internal Auditors: We are here to help you. Management: We are glad you are here. How can Internal Auditors avoid being viewed as nitpickers and time-wasters? According to Richard Chambers. Internal Auditors should strive to; 1. Manage expectations 2. Practice the fine art of appreciation 3. Be forward-looking and focused on future improvement 4. Practice the art of listening and, 5. Try to conclude every conversation with a consensus Client relationships are delicate and based in large part on trust built up over time. 🥳 Happy partner today! "...although audits are never completely straightforward by nature your team are always very helpful and responsive, and work with us to allow us to find a solution whenever issues pop up. I wish the service on the global [Big 4 name redacted] audit was to the same standard" (not made up...😉) #audit
