It's a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a building or infrastructure project. BIM is used to create, manage, and share information throughout the project lifecycle, from design and construction to operations and maintenance. According to the newcivilengineer, over 3100 bridges in the UK are deemed substandard. 🌉 Modelling bridges up for construction has traditionally been a tricky, and long winded process, but with the development of drone technology, this process has become much easier and quicker. Aerial photogrammetry allows for centimetre level accuracy for the modelling and inspection of the bridges, allowing for potential issues to be identified ahead of them being a problem. LiDAR also offers sub-centimetre level accuracy when creating these models, and with sensors that can be attached to drones, such as the DJI Zenmuse L2 and the Emesent Hovermap STX, this workflow is further streamlined. Using drone technology to capture models of bridges will save roughly 80% of time compared with traditional survey methods for the exact same outcome. How can we utilise digital engineering for projects? Take a look at the Suburban Rail Loop in Melbourne for example. We can integrate both drone imagery, indoor scanning and BIM to integrate and digitise information of the project in a visual manner. We can use this visually to see any assets that we may installed, or have already installed into the site, with their current conditions. We can also look at ways as to how we can rectify these issues on the site from the conditions that we observe from the 3D model. It is also our responsibility to identify defects on the site as engineers, body corporates and construction managers because we can be liable for quality assurance. FT. hospitality space of the Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara. 🌲🐺 This complex project involved modeling the resort’s waterpark, outdoor areas, and intricate building geometry using Autodesk Revit to produce a highly accurate and detailed representation of the lodge. From its signature log-cabin aesthetic to the dynamic water slides, every element was captured with precision, ensuring a seamless transition from point cloud to a functional BIM model. Its been wonderful learning with Esri MOOC team on the 4 weeks training section, Completing "Transform AEC Projects with GIS and BIM" has enabled to gain some key insights in BIM and GIS integration, namely: 1. Georeferencing a BIM file and converting it into a Building Scene Layer file. 2. Creating most suitable drone flight plan using ArcGIS Site Scan. 3. Creating orthophoto, DSM, DTM, 3D Mesh etc. processing drone images using ArcGIS Drone2Map. 4. Multi dimensional uses of ArcGIS Dashboards and Experience Builder for monitoring an ongoing project or finding a suitable spot for a new one. 5. Perform Spatial Analysis on BIM data and explore the operations dashboard to provide an operating picture of an AEC project. 6.
