According to the newcivilengineer, over 3100 bridges in the UK are deemed substandard. 🌉 Modelling bridges up for construction has traditionally been a tricky, and long winded process, but with the development of drone technology, this process has become much easier and quicker. Aerial photogrammetry allows for centimetre level accuracy for the modelling and inspection of the bridges, allowing for potential issues to be identified ahead of them being a problem. LiDAR also offers sub-centimetre level accuracy when creating these models, and with sensors that can be attached to drones, such as the DJI Zenmuse L2 and the Emesent Hovermap STX, this workflow is further streamlined. Using drone technology to capture models of bridges will save roughly 80% of time compared with traditional survey methods for the exact same outcome. What did I learn from the project management session hosted by the Project Management Institute a few months ago?* We need to be able to have good leadership skills to lead people well with clear communication and negotiation. This comes down to having a clearly defined and tight scope, ensuring on time, on budget project completion! We must have slow planning before we start project implementation in an efficient and effective manner. Utilising BIM and GIS together with photogrammetry and 3D scanning will enable us to see visual information of the site, so that we can make informed decisions so that projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
