What a week for VIKIN! Attending the #EventProductionShow was exciting for VIKIN. We were able to show our first Demo to many amazing people in the industry and learn about some epic potential partnerships and collaborations! It was wonderful to get together with other industry professionals and great to discover technologies that could take the VIKIN platform to the next level. Feedback on our Demo was incredibly positive, it's clear we’re hitting the common pain points experienced with festival apps. A huge shout out to our Tech team who worked day and night to ensure all of the innovative ideas were ready and working for the show. The two days at the conference allowed us to listen to talks about the future of the event industry, understand more about the main challenges the #EventProfs are facing this year. We truly want to address these issues and we know we can! As one of the main issues for any industry - revenue is something that VIKIN is concentrating on. We want to provide a wealth of revenue generating features into every VIKIN app. Keep your eyes peeled for ROI advice, feature releases and if you want to provide us more insight into your pain points - we are looking for feedback from the whole of the festival industry as well as festivals as launch partners. And honestly? We often end up with more questions than answers! 😂 But it’s during this unstructured time, filled with expansive ideas on our long walks, that the real magic begins. As we explore each thought, we identify what to embrace and what to release. This isn't just brainstorming—it's a journey to the essence of what makes _SOUTHSTART truly special. How? What? Uh? Marketing, tourism, and B2B tech…oh my! People who know very little about SXSW often think of it as a music-focused festival with startup and digital elements somehow weaved in. However, from my perspective, it is a marketing, tourism, and tech paradise. SXSW allows you to amass a large amount of information quickly. It’s a place to learn from others and be your best creative self. Who would have thought a music industry event would morph into a complex 7+ day schedule that includes 3 festivals (music, film & TV, comedy) with over 1,500 artists and 75+ stages and a conference with over 1,100 sessions (450+ sessions curated from the global community), 24 tracks, and 10 programming formats? And guess what? Layer on the fact that an estimated 300,000+ people were milling around Austin soaking in all that SXSW 2024 had to offer…..it’s mind-blowing! Only in hindsight can I give myself grace (and perhaps a cocktail) as an SXSW newbie. It’s no wonder narrowing down what you will attend and who you will actively seek to engage with is a magnitude of difficulty. Here are only a few of the sessions or events I missed but heard good things about: · Creative Industries Expo · The São Paulo Experience · Tulsa House which included FMAC at Tulsa Regional Tourism, Build in Tulsa, Atento Capital, Tulsa Remote & more · Pura Vida Experience by Essential Costa Rica · The Battle to Honor Native and Black Cultural Heritage with Devon Henry, Chief Anne Richardson, Greg Werkheiser · Annual ‘All Things Food Summit’ in partnership with Huston-Tillotson University - Austin, Texas, Driscoll's and Barr Mansion & Artisan Ballroom · Disability Made Sexy: Capturing a Global Market of 1.3 Billion People (and becoming a better person in the process) with Dylan Alcott OAM · Mentor Sessions The plan is to share another post related to the events I attended, so stay tuned. #BarCampBelfast2024 is set to hit the Oh Yeah Music Centre this October as part of Belfast Tech Week hashtag #BTW2024 . BarCamp Belfast is a user-generated unconference for founders, makers, builders, supporters, designers, developers, startups, creatives and anyone that wants to share and learn in an open environment. There are no fees to register and attend and there are no invited speakers. Instead, the attendees volunteer to give talks making for an eclectic mix of subjects hosted by your peers. Máirín Murray founder of TechFoundHer said it best when she said "I'm a huge fan of unconferences. Why? ⭐ Because they're non hierarchical - unlike traditional conferences which literally put speakers on a pedestal and 'above' the attendees. ⭐ Because they're loose, unstructured chaotic - anything can happen. ⭐ Because they're about social learning - from your community and peers and you make more pals in the process!" And while there will be some references to APIs and some such techie stuff, there will be just as much discussion on the business aspects of entrepreneurship with talks in the schedule so far on payment facilitation, using AI as a productivity superpower, why social media is never free, networking, accountancy tech, a panel on managing a business as a female entrepreneur and much more. Martin Neill the co-founder of AirPOS Pay, the Oh Yeah Music Centre., Base Arcade and more and Martin Gilchrist from Gilchrist & Co - Chartered Accountants are the driving forces behind this year’s event. They aim to emulate the success that events guru Andy McMillan had back in 2009, while respecting the groundwork laid by Andy and reflecting the good work done in the past. Marty said, "With tech and entrepreneurial culture now very much shifting towards working from home we felt it was more important than ever to get the community together and Belfast Tech Week looked like the perfect time to do it. BarCamps and BizCamps thrived back in the day as places to meet, spaces to learn and as environments where the sparks of starting something were lit. We're hoping that we'll see some of the older heads from the original events rubbing shoulders with the new generation of makers and builders, transferring knowledge, making contacts and hopefully sharing some collective wisdom over a pint or two." Exactly one week ago we did our first FLOW Local in Amsterdam. What did we learn? 1. Amsterdam is amazing in good weather (in bad as well...but when the sun is shining🤩) 2. Going to the new location is never easy, and you better get the rest ght partners to do it with! Shout out to Profoto for great workshop and support with the overall event promotion! 3. Meeting new people is the best thing events can give you. But meeting them together with your super fans is even better! Having our FLOW "regulars" with us meant the world to all of us. Thank you for your continuous support🙌 I also learned that American cold pills can pick you up from the dead and mint tea restores your voice for key announcements. But we also had valuable discussions, and as someone who didn't get to participate, I loved reading the key takeaways! My personal favorite?
