This is the second phase of my article which has been published in an Automark Magazine in edition December'24, it is a large topic which is being researched and I am trying to cover it in three phases insha'Allah. The topic of ADAS caught my attention when I went to montgomery market to replace the front windscreen of my vehicle which had broken. Windscreen shop owner told me an interesting story about replacing Japanese vehicle front windscreen which was damaged in an accident caused by sudden braking of top of a brand Chinese SUV which was moving forward. Even the driver of the Chinese brand vehicle doesn't know why the vehicle applied sudden brakes automatically.   So, being a Quality Guy, I started searching for the root cause of this issue and later I found out it was caused by the automatic emergency brake AEB (ADAS) feature. We usually ignore the real-time threats while driving in Pakistan roads which sensors can’t ignore. In my first article, I explain everything about active and passive ADAS features. I cover all technical background of ADAS, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of different sensors, in my second article. As of now, I am investigating whether the ADAS system is suitable for the current traffic laws and road infrastructure of Pakistan. There may be more cases in the future, so are we heading towards a right direction to introduce state-of-the-art ADAS features in Pakistan vehicles? As per SRO 656/2024, auto OEMs are required to follow WP-29 UNR standards, which includes few features that need to be added to vehicles till June 2026, primarily ABS, SRS, etc. There is no such requirement for an ADAS feature. The OEMs and some customers I spoke with both said they turn off all of these or the active ADAS features while driving. In some vehicles, once you turn off these features, they won't work until you activate them again, but in most, these features activate automatically when you start the vehicle and you need to go to the settings to turn them off. So, if these features are unusable, why are we adding them and increasing the vehicle's cost?
