BIM is about comunication
BIM Coordinators job is NOT only tools, processes, and checking. It's constant communication with the design team: • Understanding bottlenecks, • Knowing who are decision-makers, • Finding out what can be improved through try and error process Without good communication, we can't deliver the best outcomes. And communication often starts during the meetings. So today I would like to recall one super important aspect of our work - Running coordination meetings. Good Coordination Session vs. Bad One. There is a very thin line between both. Avoid these 5 mistakes, and most likely, your next meeting won't be a disaster. 💥 😉 If you want to be a successful BIM coordinator, please send me a message - "BIM Coordinator", let's have a chat.

This comparison and explanation. To confirm the idea that BIM is an integral part of engineering and technical activities. Very good definition.

Absolutely, this is an excellent point to address Yazan! I had myself some confusion when I applied for a position as a working student. The position was *BIM Modeller* role, but I falsely wrote in my CV that I´m applying for a BIM-Manager position :) The confusion cleared itself when my supervisor told me the differences. Let’s break down these roles to clarify their unique responsibilities and potentially guide those navigating this complex job landscape. BIM Modeller: Primarily focuses on creating detailed digital models of buildings which serve as the foundation for further analysis and modification. This role requires strong technical skills in software like Revit. BIM Coordinator: Acts as a liaison between different project teams, ensuring model accuracy and adherence to timelines. The BIM Coordinator often manages data exchange and workflow integration among stakeholders. BIM Manager: Oversees the implementation of BIM standards across projects, trains team members, and is responsible for the strategic alignment of BIM technologies with organizational goals. This role often requires a mix of technical expertise and management skills. Senior BIM Manager: In addition to the responsibilities of a BIM Manager, the Senior BIM Manager often takes on larger-scale projects and may contribute to policy-making and strategic decisions at the organizational level. BIM Expert: Usually a role that blends the technical aspects of modeling with strategic oversight, ensuring that BIM practices enhance the overall project delivery process. To address the confusion in the market, it's crucial for firms to clearly define these roles and the associated competencies required. This would aid (young) professionals in aligning their skills and career aspirations with the right positions. Additionally, developing a standardized BIM protocol and a comprehensive strategy can further clarify roles and expectations, benefiting both employers and employees in the construction industry. In essence, the industry could benefit significantly from clearer definitions and standardized roles to ensure that BIM's potential is fully realized, moving beyond the trend and firmly establishing itself as a fundamental aspect of modern construction practices.
Understanding the Maze of BIM Job Titles in Germany In my quest for a BIM coordinator position in Germany, I've encountered a perplexing array of job descriptions all under the same title. This has led to a realization that each company defines BIM roles differently, resulting in a myriad of titles like BIM Modeller, BIM Expert, BIM Coordinator, BIM overall Coordinator, BIM Manager, and Senior BIM Manager. For instance, some job descriptions for a BIM Expert entail a combination of coordination, modeling, and planning tasks, effectively merging two roles into one. Similarly, a BIM Coordinator might find themselves performing the duties of both planning and modeling. Others advertise positions as BIM Coordinator/Manager, essentially requiring individuals to oversee the coordination and management of multiple projects simultaneously. Then there are job descriptions for BIM Modellers, which seem to be no different from traditional planning and modeling positions, with the addition of the "BIM" label. This begs the question: why add "BIM" to the title if the responsibilities are standard? Moreover, when questioning some offices about their BIM Protocol, the response often resembles a conventional project management roadmap with the incorporation of coordination tools, rather than a comprehensive BIM strategy. This current state of BIM roles is generating confusion and ambiguity in the market, making it challenging for professionals, especially newcomers, to find positions that align with their career aspirations and skillsets. At the end, it made me think that BIM is being taken as a Trend without defining what we want to achieve with this Trend, but is it like this? Let's start a discussion: What's your take on the current state of BIM roles in the industry? #BIM #Construction #CareerDevelopment #JobSearch #Germany
