Last week, the Space Development Agency (SDA) announced another successful testing milestone with Link 16. In addition to successfully demonstrating the first-ever Link 16 network entry from low-Earth orbit to a Navy ship operating in international waters, SDA was able to enhance its operational realism for several test cases by also transmitting Link 16 messages from the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (#PWSA) Tranche 0 constellation to an aircraft parked on the carrier’s deck. These successful tests continue to demonstrate using Link 16 utility from space to other DoD assets. The recent space to ship demonstration success follows the first-ever Link 16 network entry from space to ground during tests beginning in November 2023. The continuing demonstrations highlight the potential capability for beyond-line-of-sight targeting, improving real-time situational awareness, and global connectivity for the joint warfighter. These tests lay the foundation for more complex Tranche 0 Link 16 testing while accelerating the operationalization of Tranche 1 Link 16 capabilities. #SemperCitius #PWSA #Satellites #Space #Defense #Army #Navy #Marines #AirForce #SpaceForce #Link16

It is quite clear than Link 16 will be with us along with it is 95 per cent fully compatible F series messages few decades ahead of us. Lessons learn from Ukraine war will challenge how to integrate non secure links into MDO and combat cloud.

A recent discussion at the Defence in Space conference in London explored the growing reliance of militaries on commercial satellite systems such as SpaceX’s Starlink and Amazon’s Kuiper. Experts highlighted concerns about the robustness of these commercial systems in critical defence scenarios. Questions arose about whether such systems, not designed with military resilience, could withstand the increasingly hostile space environment. The dilemma pits the affordability and accessibility of commercial satellites against the security and reliability offered by dedicated military space assets. Check out Tereza Pultarova’s report below. #SpaceDefence #Satellites #Starlink #MilitaryResilience #DefenceInnovation https://bit.ly/4gxT3BQ

With about 30,000 objects larger than a softball currently orbiting Earth, how can the U.S. military maintain and safeguard national security in space? 🥎 We've secured the development and long-term sustainment of Space Systems Command’s Consolidated Operational Data Archive. This automated system will provide the United States Space Force with access to commercial and non-traditional data sources, save thousands of hours of data processing, and will allow real-time, informed decisions in space defense operations.
