Yesterday, at the pre-conference sessions of the American Evaluation Association (AEA) Conference 2024 (#Eval24), our Vice President, Awuor PONGE, PhD, representing our President, Miché Ouédraogo, Ph.D, received the distinguished invitation of the President of the American Evaluation Association (AEA), Felicia R. Bohanon, Ed.D. to address the Board of the AEA on AfrEA's Strategic Vision and areas for potential collaboration between the two organisations. He shared our 5 Strategic Objectives: · Strengthen the capacities, visibility and influence of African Evaluation Association - AfrEA and its member VOPEs; · Support the institutionalization and professionalization of evaluation and its practice; · Promote youth and women in evaluation; · Support the #MadeInAfricaEvaluation agenda; and · Promote the use of evaluation and evidence to inform and guide policy decisions on critical African priorities. Members of the AEA Board were appreciative of our achievements this far and were impressed with our Strategic Plan 2024 – 2028, and the Vision for AfrEA! This discussion also centred on the outcome with activities on Research on Peace, Democracy and Governance with key areas of urgent concern for the partnership being: · the formal renewal of the Sister-Sister partnership agreement with AEA Thematic Interest Group (TIG) on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance (DRG) · the elevation of the collaboration to full between AfrEA and the AEA, and not just an AEA TIG. · enhanced capacity development of AfrEA membership, especially the Young and Emerging Evaluators (YEEs), capitalising on AfrEA’s huge membership base of both the individual members and VOPEs. We continue to expand our leadership and impact in evaluation across #Africa and globally.

Development over realpolitik In an unprecedented move, African National Congress forged alliance with white-led Democratic Alliance to form national unity government in South Africa. Cyril Ramaphosa will continue as the President. Couple of smaller parties have also joined the alliance. Its good fortune that miscreants, Jacob Zuma and Julius Malema have been kept out of the alliance. The focus is on national renewal, development and economic reforms. The liberal, efficient and business friendly DA should strengthen the hands of Ramaphosa. The duo together should focus on healing devasting effects of Jacob Zuma’s misrule and subsequent drift under Ramaphosa’s first term. Solid governance from ANC-DA combo should pull South Africa out of the rut and keep pernicious forces away from the government for good. All the very best to the Rainbow Nation to realize its true potential.

While Sida is upending its decades-old system of strategic partnerships with Swedish #civilsociety organisations, opening it for global competition, Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation appears to be moving in the opposite direction, strengthening ties with a select group of strategic actors. In the first round, only Norwegian organisations have made it through the eye of the needle. The new arrangement aims to reduce the bureaucratic burden on these organisations, freeing up time for more substantive, strategic dialogue. According to Norad, the target group for its new arrangement is “large civil society organisations, Norwegian and international” but so far only 1 organisation from the #GlobalSouth has applied. Compare this with the situation in Sweden where more than 200 organsations based in the Global South are competing for Sida CSO funding. @globalfundcf West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) Re-imagining the INGO (RINGO) Peace Direct The Movement for Community-led Development Adeso Erik Lunde, Dagfinn Høybråten Ann Stewart Pedersen, Birgit Philipsen, Magnhild Vasset, Kaj-Martin Georgsen Bård Vegar Solhjell https://lnkd.in/dxV_my6R
