Why are pop-ups so exciting in the world of retail? They create urgency for a visit, which drives value for the shopping center owner and the other retailers in the space. They give retailers and product companies the ability to test physical spaces, leverage seasonal opportunities and create experiences that deepen the customer relationship without needing to commit long term. For the consumer, the opportunity to engage and the push to go somewhere within a limited period of time creates excitement within the shopping experience. In short - they bring lots of value for most involved in the retail landscape. But the challenge is how to leverage these opportunities at scale and identify the ideal balance between the need for stability and the desire to generate short term excitement.
