In a unique twist on traditional assessments, our students embraced creativity and cultural diversity by representing nations of their choice, dressed in vibrant attire. The energy was electric as they engaged in extempore debates on crucial global topics like China’s foreign policy, US foreign policy, climate change and global terrorism. This wasn't just a test—it was an exciting exchange of ideas, diplomacy and critical thinking, all while celebrating the beauty of different cultures. At ATLAS ISME, we continue to empower students to think beyond textbooks, fostering creativity, global engagement and innovative learning experiences. On the evening of September 21st, members of the Asia Association of Education and Exchange (AAEE) gathered to finalize plans for the upcoming event on November 3rd at JICA Global Plaza in Ichigaya. This is AAEE’s largest domestic event, providing a significant opportunity for students to engage, participate in AAEE’s mission, and emerge as future leaders. As in past years, we expect this event to inspire new leaders to take on key roles in our future initiatives. What stood out during the meeting was the remarkable initiative and responsibility shown by the students. Though I had prepared contingency plans, they were unnecessary as the students had already shaped the event’s content themselves. Their leadership and maturity were impressive, affirming their pivotal role in shaping the future of AAEE. The students have set an ambitious goal of filling an 100-seat venue and are making arrangements for international students to participate online, turning this into a truly global, student-led initiative. Having overcome pandemic challenges, this event will expand international student collaboration to a new level. The theme, “Sustainability in Education and Intercultural Collaboration,” is not just theoretical but a real challenge that requires practical solutions. Students will need to address real-world issues and work across cultures to seek solutions. I look forward to seeing how they advance these discussions to improve education worldwide. AAEE’s focus on international student collaboration, now in its 15th year, continues to be recognized globally. This year, I will speak at the International Summit in Brazil and visit Vietnam after the event. Furthermore, a one-hour feature on our students’ achievements aired on Nepalese national television, highlighting their growing global impact. It is today’s students who will shape the future. Their leadership, confidence, and vision on the global stage bring me immense pride, and we must support them fully as they continue to forge new paths. #AAEE #AsiaAssociatioofEducationandEzchange #JICA #Globalpartnership

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 I am thrilled to share that I have completed the Intercultural Awareness Certificate from Queen's University International Centre (QUIC). 🌍✨ Intercultural training offered by the QUIC aims to encourage us to consider the influence of culture on our perspectives and interactions, and to better equip us to understand and appreciate cultural points of view besides our own. The QUIC offers a comprehensive training series culminating in this valuable certification. Throughout the program, we covered essential topics across five insightful sessions: Session One: Introduced us to basic concepts of intercultural learning and theory, emphasizing how culture frames experience and perception. Session Two: Explored how values and beliefs are tied to expectations and interpretations of interpersonal interactions. Session Three: Highlighted how the cultures we’re connected to can overlap and interact with other cultures, especially in the context of colonialism. Session Four: Focused on communication and responding to differences using the R.D.I. approach and empathic communication. Session Five: Engaged us in collective self-reflection exercises, applying the knowledge and concepts from previous sessions and reflecting on their impact on us. A huge thank you to Lee Richard, the Facilitator of IAC, for his guidance and support throughout this journey. I'm really looking forward to applying these insights and continuing to foster inclusive and respectful environments in both personal and professional settings. #InterculturalAwareness #InterculturalTraining #ContinuousLearning #CulturalDiversity #GlobalMindset #QueensUniversity

E-Quadrat Science & Education and I personally are honoured to partner with the International Association of Universities, alongside conference partners such as The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, IES Abroad, EURASHE, Magna Charta Observatory, Qatar Airways, and University World News, to deliver the 2024 International Conference on “University Values in a Changing World”. This prestigious event will be held at Sophia University in #Tokyo, #Japan, from 22nd to 24th November 2024. Find out more at www.iautokyo2024.net The issue of values has become increasingly crucial for the higher education sector worldwide. In recent years, we have witnessed a significant rise in breaches of research integrity and the dilution of university strategies, often reduced to a mere pursuit of higher positions in global commercial rankings. We have also seen quality assurance overshadowed by the dominance of rankings, competition taking precedence over collaboration, and numerous other concerning trends. The internal struggles that universities have faced over the past few years are now compounded by a surge in external pressures. These include growing scepticism about the relevance of universities to societal needs, budget cuts, right-wing political opposition to internationalisation, escalating geopolitical tensions that have already imposed severe restrictions on international collaboration, and rapid technological advancements that rival some of the most significant changes humanity has ever experienced. Can the university community withstand these challenges? What core values does it uphold, and can it provide a foundation for overcoming difficulties without compromising its identity? Can the values that bind the university community help to address the global challenges confronting societies worldwide? At E-Quadrat Science & Education, our mission is to support institutions with developing a robust strategic plan, track research, and provide a roadmap for growth. If you are interested in joining us in Tokyo, please feel free to reach out to our Senior Advisor, Prof. Dr. Olgun Cicek Cicek, an advisory board member at Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) / CIQG, Vice-President at IQA, and board member at INQAAHE - International Network for QAAs in HE, or please speak with Michael Caruana, our Director of Institutional Strategies, to discuss any support you may need. #HigherEducation #HigherEd #UniversityValues #Values #Internationalization #GlobalCitizenship #IAUTokyo2024 #IAU #IC2024
