24hrs till the BIG Citizen Friday, formerly known as Black Friday! 🎉 Around a year ago, Re-Action Collective launched Citizen Friday campaign as an antidote to the Black Friday frenzy. 🛒 Since then, it’s become something we all look forward to every week—a quiet, collective celebration of choosing community, creativity, and connection over buying stuff. It’s turned into a movement of our own making, with folks picking up the message and running with it. A whole year of shifting how we approach our week, peeling back the layers of the “consumer story” and finding so much more joy and connection underneath. 🧡 Let’s be clear—renaming it Green Friday or Blue Friday doesn’t change the game. It’s still the same cycle of overconsumption, just wrapped in a slightly greener bow. While Black/ Green/ Blue Friday screams, “BUY MORE,” we’re here for: 🌟 Discovering what makes you tick 🌲 Getting back to your roots 🕺 Doing what’s better for your soul, the planet, and your community This is our kind of “deal”: 🎽 Getting outdoors - reconnecting with nature and yourselves 💚 Sharing - your time, skills and what brings you joy with others 🪡 Repairing So here’s to CITIZEN FRIDAY —a moment to step back, take a breath, and remember we’re part of something bigger. Together, we can redefine what really matters. “I think this system is already in collapse, and therefore the system will change. Cracks are appearing. If that is the case we should be putting energy into reimagining our future. That can begin with the individual, and I think it starts with an internal conversation. Questioning all of the things we have told ourselves, and sitting with questions rather than answers. I think system change starts with an internal awakening, building into a collective awakening. It starts with refusing to accept the stories we have told ourselves. Citizen Friday has led me to realise that we’ve all collectively been living lies, we’re all implicated, and entangled in this system. We are the system. Our stories of progress and the othering, of each other and of the natural world are deeply flawed.” Gavin Fernie-Jones Tomorrow we’re unveiling a snapshot of the results from Outdoors 2.0. 👀 We’ve been asking … How people FEEL about the outdoor industry? What can we REIMAGINE about apparel, events, and access? The outdoor industry has lost its way, chasing profits at the expense of people and planet. Urgh. 🫠 But there’s another way a -future we can co-create. One that centers human hearts, connection and our beautiful home planet. Sounds better right? Are you in?

1wNothing quite like a bit of collective action to crowdsource a re-imagining of the future, to wash away Black Friday. Here are the links to join the Øutdoors 2.0 conversation.
