Earlier this year, the Center for Inclusive Innovation released a white paper sharing new stories, solutions, outcomes, and learnings from years of deep collaboration with communities on #InclusiveInnovation, an R&D model that starts with centering the needs of those most impacted by complex educational challenges.
At the foundation of Inclusive Innovation are six Core Tenets that, when used together, provide a springboard for community-based innovation to emerge. They are:
#1: Collective Ownership
#2: Student Voice and Leadership
#3: Context Expertise and Proximity
#4: Continuity of Equity
#5: Reimagining Progress
#6: Building Capacity
Over the next couple weeks, we’ll be sharing stories of the Core Tenets in action, so be sure to tune in to learn more!
🌐 No set of experiences should be . . .
. . . aged-out, gendered-out or raced-out.
A little like libraries of who we are – our sets of experiences inform everything.
What we see.
How we know.
When we do.
Sending much 🙏 to Sydney Loney for writing and publishing, ‘At the Top and Aging Out.’
The wildly inspiring takeaways?
> Let’s celebrate learning – getting beyond ‘I didn’t know then.’
> Let’s celebrate determination – utilizing ‘what I now know.’
> Let’s celebrate contributions – enabling all to ask, ‘what more can I do?’
Whatever, whenever and however someone chooses to ask it!
Because that’s Modern Leadership in action.

Quotes we loved from the leaders in design thinking for social innovation who joined us at NYU this summer:
Adrian Manuel, Ed.D and Bill Clarke from CoLAB: “Consider what narrative your audience is working with. Cultivate a desire to understand people’s stories to understand the types of change and transformation they would be open to exploring. Design thinking is not an all-or-nothing process. Consider making room for design thinking “moments” rather than squeezing in the entire process.”
Katrina Estacio: “Creating relationships is a really important part of my process. Find your champions. Identify a sandbox where you can create your own micro opportunities to practice design thinking, so you’re ready when bigger opportunities present themselves.
Alexia Cohen, Evelyn Garrido, María Claudia Barcha Diaz, Daniela V Sanchez from Dalberg: “When learning from and engaging with different communities, have someone the community trusts or respects in the room with you, especially when meeting for the first time.”
Joie Cruz from Limitless Lab: “Innovation requires human transformation. The innovative spirit can be contagious. True co-design engages the most disadvantaged stakeholders not just as interviewees, but also as knowledge creators and designers themselves.”
Nexus Fellows return to their organizations prepared to lead equity sessions internally and externally, able to engage in the iterative design process, equityXdesign, and prepared to build a coalition of allies within their organizations and communities to drive change forward. For those who have felt discouraged by their experiences pushing for change, they have found a community that heals, rejuvenates and resources them to persist.

Learning about this tool some time in 2022, and my brain felt so relieved to be able to articulate what is in my head onto paper : to bridge communities, resources, interests, wants and needs, offers and requests.
In 2023, I asked Michael Ong and Tim Wieringa if they will be conducting another session, so that more people can be introduced to the tool. I firmly believed that more people need to be have an opportunity to interact with it, and experience it. And another session was organised and conducted. For this session, I invited Aifa Ahmad and Amy Kang Metaphysics to experience and experiment with it, and they found it useful too!
So, this year, we decided, to make it available to as many people as possible, in the form of a website! So, if you feel you have a thought, an idea, a community, that will benefit from articulating the thoughts on paper, and then sharing it to others before meeting with them, you might want to consider trying this out!
It was such a fun and playful process with Michael, Tim and Tze Chin Tang crafting the website, and I learnt so much from them about Ai (capybaras, sharks, dogs and cats were all part of the process, together with #chatgpt, #gemini and the works!)

🎉 *The Journey Unveiled: Bridging People Canvas Website is Live!* 🌐
We began with a question: Why are we here? The answer was clear. To support those who transform our world for the better, who often find themselves on an island of passion amidst a sea of challenges. 🌍💡
Today, we're thrilled to share the full story of the Bridging People Canvas – from its inception in the u.lab 2x societal transformation lab to its role in connecting diverse stakeholders towards a shared vision. 📖
Our website is a sanctuary for changemakers, a space where values like mission-based finance, health, and well-being, and governance resonate through every pixel. It's where education meets action, and where organic growth is nurtured through understanding and change. 🌱
Experience our story of five stages, where the metaphorical icebergs of isolation converge into a dynamic ecosystem, empowered by a canvas that serves as both a bridge and a beacon. 🐕🐱🐊🐉

I am so happy about this initiative. Natassia Hott, Ph.D. And I and the whole Momentum team really want to partner and serve with organizations that need L&D, but it may not have been in their expansion plan for their organization this year.
Everyone deserves to be #developed.

All too often in schools we focus on historic data to make decisions—enrollment, fundraising, facility expansion, you name it. As noted here, "lagging indicators result from past decisions. Leading indicators point to future problems or opportunities." We should seek our early warning signs of change in two places—our customers (parents, faculty/staff) and our competitors. A valuable reminder to seek feedback early and often and know your neighbors. #independentschools#strategicplanning#leadership#futurefocused
I'm thrilled to share that I’ve wrapped up an exhilarating journey with Dr. Gemma Leigh Roberts’ course on "Enhancing Team Innovation". It’s been a transformative experience, packed with insights on fostering creativity and driving innovation within teams.
Here’s a sneak peek at what I’ve learned:
1. Diversity is the Engine of Innovation: Embracing varied perspectives leads to richer ideas.
2. Psychological Safety First: Creating a space where every voice is heard and valued.
3. Embrace the uniqueness of Teams and Create an environment that encourages risk-taking and learning from setbacks.
I’m excited to put these principles into action and watch my team’s creativity soar to new heights. If you want to spark innovation in your team, this course is your launchpad!
Who’s ready to join me on this journey of continuous learning and growth? 🌟
