RSV is a common respiratory virus that can be severe for infants and young children, especially those born prematurely or with certain health conditions. RSV is a highly contagious virus that can be transmitted by droplets in the air, and or when a person touches their face after touching a contaminated surface. In Queensland, the RSV Vaccine, Nirsevimab, is now available for newborn infants in all Queensland birthing hospitals (including Mater Mothers’). Routine immunisation providers can also now provide parents and carers of eligible infants and young children access to Nirsevimab. 🌟 RESPIRATORY RADAR 🤧 COVID-19 cases have been steadily rising over the past month, with several outbreaks reported in aged care facilities. For those who are not up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations, it is encouraged to get vaccinated. For more information, visit https://zurl.co/covid In addition, while human metapneumovirus and parainfluenza viruses remain elevated since September, we are now well past the peak of influenza and RSV activity. This year has also seen a notable increase in cases of Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Pertussis.
