What's the difference between dancing at a wedding and dancing at a funeral? Context. Remember this in your presentation → the same words can have drastically different outcomes in different contexts. This is why you 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 do research before your talk. • Who are you talking to? • Why are you talking to them? • What type of talk are they expecting? • What's happened before your talk? • What's happening after it? When you plan your talk, don't just focus on what you want to say and forget everything else!

Hummingbird moments.... Rare, powerful, and joyful. Hummingbirds are rare. Rarely spotted and rarely seen. They're notoriously skittish and when you do spot one, you can't quite believe your eyes. And then, by the time you register that you're actually seeing a hummingbird... they're gone. (I filmed this one this morning on my back porch in Boston.) https://lnkd.in/ezWCrX96 I think of moments of great achievement with your speaking can be like hummingbirds. When they happen, like a moment when you nail a speech on stage and feel 'Yes!' (add a fist pump), that moment registers and then is gone and you've moved on to the next moment. But you can recall how it felt to feel powerful, magnetic, and so very in the moment. You can recall that physical experience and the rightness, the wholeness, you felt at that moment in time and use it to fuel your next moment on stage when you speak or give a presentation. You see, it's the continual putting yourself out there, risking being vulnerable, and consistently stretching the parameters of your comfort zone that yields the finest hummingbird moments. So the next time you feel terrified or panicked at the idea of getting up on stage or speaking to a group of people, remember: You are strong and beautiful, you are creating a moment in time that will be like no other, and you shine so finely that it surpasses all understanding. Create hummingbird moments. And then create another one. And another one. Vulnerability is your superpower. Take a big gulp of it and throw your arms around it. The moment will be over faster than you think and then you'll move onto the next moment of beauty. You've got this.
