Pedrali celebrates the tenth anniversary of Flag, the coat stand designed by Pio and Tito Toso. Flag coat stand results from the synthesis between form and function. The polypropylene arms are integrated into the supporting steel column, giving the piece a single-material aesthetic with organic lines. “There are no fastening elements; it appears to be forged from a single piece” – tell the designers. Flag is available with either 5 or 4 arms and includes a bag hanger, all characterised by clean lines. Designed to meet the needs for flexibility and adaptability, its hallmark features are versatility and modularity. The arms can be arranged in various configurations, either perpendicular or staggered, allowing Flag to seamlessly fit into any environment, from public spaces to residential settings. By adjusting the arm positions to create new geometries, it maintains functionality while enhancing visual appeal. When we were in Milan several months ago we were so captivated by Nendo’s ingenuity for his Light and Shade product line. The collection aims to treat the cast and the mold as objects of equal importance. From a desire to express the complementary relationship through objects, focus was given to the cast and the mold. Normally, the cast is the object of interest and the mold that produced it is hidden from the audience. The mold of one chair becomes another chair. Another mold becomes the base of a table, while its cast acts as a stool. Each item serves its own unique purpose. Lamp, shelf, or clock can be joined as “molds” and “casts” to have a combined utility. The steel “molds” are finished with a slightly translucent black coating to maintain the metal’s materiality, and the “casts” on the other hand, are finished with matte white acrylic resin.
