I just attended the MIXiii Health-Tech.IL conference in Jerusalem - an annual event for the Life Science & Health Tech Industries in Israel, organized by the IATI - Israel Advanced Technology Industries Association. The conference started on the 150 day anniversary of October 7. On Day 1 of the conference, Hezbollah launched somewhere between 30-50 missiles simultaneously at the northern city of Kiryat Shemoneh. While Israel mourns the lives of so many lost and lives the horror that is the ongoing plight of the hostages, the parade of startups presenting at the conference made it clear that Startup Nation is not waiting for the "day after" to continue its world class innovation. One presentation in particular captured the resilience that is on constant display in Israel. RealizeMD is a startup with proprietary algorithms that enable privacy preserving visualization, allowing clinics to use ‘before & after’ visuals of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures while safeguarding patient privacy. At the end of founder Uri Neeman's excellent presentation, he concluded with the attached slide. A tribute to fallen soldier Major Ben Shelly, a hero of Oct. 7 who was subsequently killed in combat. Uri used the tribute to highlight the efforts of the Next October initiative (link in comments). Their mission statement: "The Next October initiative emerges as a beacon of hope and innovation, born from the tragedy of the October 2023 War. Our mission is to transform grief into progress by creating over 1,400 startups, each commemorating the brave souls we lost. We're not just building companies; we're building legacies." And that folks, is why Israel will not just make it through today's challenges, but emerge stronger.
