The agency got complacent and stopped innovating. I came on board and saw a lot of gaps in: - Creative strategy - Campaign setup They had a good run when a creative went viral, but then a decline followed. They did not produce enough: - Creative variations - New creative ideas Creative fatigue started to affect new customer acquisition. Advantage shopping campaigns allocated 50% to existing customers. Then, I jumped in... We turned the ship around in less than a month and hit a new customer sales record. They just received a $350K financing and are well underway to reach $500K/month. Here is what we did to turn creative fatigue around: - 3rd party Facebook pages. - Testing new creative formats. - Testing on ABO with strict exclusions. - Variations of previous best performers. Ad agencies will torch me for this. But CEOs & CMOs deserve the truth. Every agency owner I’ve talked to told me this was a bad idea ➡️ *Charge clients a FLAT-FEE vs. the typical percent of spend agency model.* They said we’ve be leaving money on the table. And we are. But when Robbie & I were scaling cos. as founder & CMO, we hated percent of spend. B/c spend can have nothing to do with marketing performance & profits. Nor does the agency’s workload scale proportionally with spend. It’s a bad deal for brands…even if it means more money for the agency. 🚫 We’re not here to nickel & dime. 🚫 We’re not here to punish growth. 🚫 We’re not here to be status quo. ✅ We’re here to bleed quality at a fair price. The Real Drivers of Success: Product vs. Ad? Is it the product or the ad that truly drives clicks and purchases? Or perhaps it's a mix of both? Maybe the ad drives the click, while the product drives the sale. As someone who works on the brand and product side, I constantly hear pitches from agencies guaranteeing performance and selling their way of doing things. Does one size really fit all in performance marketing? My take: doubt it! We used to get pitches where companies would fly out, eager to dig in and learn about our product because they were genuinely excited about it. That enthusiasm seems rare nowadays.
