How can you help? As I write this, 200,000 people - mainly women and children who have fled unimageable chaos and violence in Sudan - are stuck on the border of Chad. They are waiting to be relocated to refugee camps, camps UNHCR has to build from scratch because existing camps are overcapacity. This means constructing shelters, building sanitation systems, drilling boreholes for water, setting up schools and healthcare centres. Things that help these resilient people start their lives again. And with UNHCR's expertise, that's the easy part. The hard part is getting the funds needed to do it. Until that happens, families will remain in limbo in unhygienic, dangerous conditions - children's lives lost and stories left unheard. How can you help? https://lnkd.in/e4ieqkwg.

As we commemorate this year’s #WorldRefugeeDay, we honour children and their families who have been forced to flee, including the more than 4 million people who are refugees in #EastAfrica. The region is also grappling with the urgent situation in #Sudan, which is now the world’s largest child displacement crisis - with over 4 million children forced from their homes since April 2023, including nearly 1 million children crossing into neighbouring countries. Together, we can champion their right to seek safety, build support for their economic and social inclusion, and advocate for solutions to their plight. World Vision has just published a report that focuses on one of the issues we are seeing that directly impacts refugees and Internally Displaced Persons receiving humanitarian assistance - food ration cuts. Let’s come together to ensure no child goes hungry and all children have the opportunity to thrive. You can read our global report here: https://lnkd.in/d4cVfEcw. Below we share a highlight of the ongoing conflict in Sudan. https://lnkd.in/dE5pf9iR

Today we mark the one-year anniversary of the escalation of conflict in Sudan, which has displaced 8.6 million people from their homes -- more than half of whom are children. That's 4.7 million children who are now refugees or internally displaced. 😢 Displaced families are in desperate need of life-saving assistance including water, shelter and basic essentials. Furthermore, women and girls are at grave risk of sexual and gender-based violence, which has reached alarming levels in areas such as Darfur and Kordofan. Many have sought safety and shelter in the neighbouring countries of Chad, Egypt, South Sudan, Ethiopia and the Central African Republic. But these countries have also been devastated by conflict, climate disasters and instability in recent times. Despite the urgent need, the regional response plan is only 7% funded, a catastrophic funding gap. Thousands of Syrian refugees who once sought safety in Lebanon are now being forcibly displaced back to Syria due to the escalating conflict. More than a quarter of a million people are estimated to have crossed into Syria to escape the growing dangers in Lebanon, including both Lebanese and Syrian families. Some have reported being forced to pay large sums of money to reach their destinations, with no money left over for basic necessities. Needs in Syria are now at their highest since the conflict began 14 years ago - a situation likely to deteriorate with the arrival of more displaced people. Meanwhile, only a quarter of the funding required to meet the existing needs in Syria has been secured. The IRC has been working in Syria since 2012, providing lifesaving health care and protection services. Learn more at Rescue.org.

【#WorldRefugeeDay: Rebuilding Lives for the Displaced and Refugees🏠】 “The soldiers broke into our home and shot our dad who was trying to protect us. They also raped me and I got pregnancy from it.” Sara, the 17-year-old refugee from Sudan Crisis. The #UkraineCrisis, the #SudanConflict , the #GazaCrisis and frequent climate disasters have triggered an unprecedented wave of refugees. The number of forcibly displaced people worldwide has risen to a record-breaking 120 million, of whom up to 40% are children and teenagers. During the crisis, people are forced to leave their homes and flee in all directions. Refugee children not only face water and food shortages, but also fall into crises such as #dropout, #exploitation, #trafficking and #abuse. Even worse, girls are more likely to suffer #sexualviolence and #teenage pregnancy like Sara, causing a lifetime of trauma to them. Sara’s tragedy must never be repeated. Plan International is carrying out humanitarian relief work in several refugee-hosting countries, providing life-saving supplies such as food and clean water, psychological support, education, child protection, and sexual violence prevention assistance to the refugees so that they can rebuild their lives. June 20th is #WorldRefugeeDay. We hope we all can pay more attention to the needs of refugees, lend a helping hand to them so that they can feel the warmth away from home. Five-year-old Ekhtiar sits outside a UNHCR-supported community centre in Amran, northwest Yemen, where her family seeks assistance. After more than nine years of relentless civil war, Yemen remains one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, with millions displaced and 75 percent of the country dependent on humanitarian aid. Despite all of this, the crisis in Yemen has faded from our headlines and newsfeeds, becoming a #SilentEmergency. UNHCR is helping displaced families in Yemen meet their basic needs by supplying shelter kits, cash assistance and legal aid. The UN Refugee Agency is also providing specialised relief items to address the specific needs of displaced communities, including mattresses, sleeping mats, kitchen sets, buckets, core household products and repair kits for homes damaged by bombs. #YemenCrisis #HumanitarianAid #SupportYemen #DisplacedFamilies #UNHCR #StandWithYemen

Today marks one year since the conflict in Sudan began, yet not enough has been done to alleviate the suffering of millions affected. Sudan now faces the world's largest displacement crisis, with over 10.7 million people displaced. Chad, despite its own challenges, has welcomed more than 553,000 fleeing people. As the crisis persists, it's crucial that the international community steps up support. Today's donor conference in Paris, is a pivotal moment to increase flexible funding for emergency response, focusing on food security, infrastructure, education, child protection, and addressing gender-based violence and mental health. Tomorrow might be too late. HIAS and other organizations are on the ground, providing vital assistance despite challenges. But more support is needed to address the escalating humanitarian needs and ensure the safety and dignity of those affected by this crisis. https://lnkd.in/eCihBPYg #chad #sudan #emergencyresponse #emergencyaid #humanitarian #humanitarianaid #conflict #war #protectrefugees #refugees #withrefugees #refugeeswelcome #supportrefugees #sudaneserefugees

⚠️ One of the world's worst humanitarian crises is also one of the most forgotten. The war in Sudan has forced over 11 million people from their home, including over 2 million who have fled into nearby countries. The majority have taken refuge in #Chad, which is one the world's poorest countries and unequipped to support the influx of refugees. ShelterBox is providing aid and shelter to families in Chad, but more needs to be done to help bring this crisis back into the spotlight. 📣 Share this post now to help raise awareness. #ShelterAid #HumanitarianCrisis #ShelterIsLifeSaving #EmergencyShelter #ShelterBoxAus

📈 The number of forcibly displaced people is increasing – currently 114 million – and counting. 📉 But the resources to help them are not increasing at the same pace. ❌ This leads to major problems: UNHCR cannot provide the millions of refugees around the world with all the help they need. ❌ Instead, UNHCR is facing impossible decisions to meet the greatest demands we’ve ever seen. Discover the impacts of being underfunded 👉https://lnkd.in/evZVUPJx
