DP: What is the definition of success for your school? JP: Our foundations are built on academic excellence, high standards and our values. Success means delivering this. We aim for students to achieve strong GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and IB results, enabling them to reach top institutions like Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard or Yale, or follow other paths; there is no ‘right’ way and we want all our students to be confident contributors wherever they go. However, getting a good IB result does not mean anything unless you have the values to go with it.. Success is not just about grades; it requires values like work ethic, empathy, teamwork and a sense of family. A lecturer from the University of Sunderland has been selected to be a part of a commission which aims to make teaching a more sustainable profession. Dr Haili Hughes, Principal Lecturer in Mentoring and Professional Development at the University, has been appointed to be part of the new Teaching Commission launched by Professor Mary Bousted, Former joint General Secretary of the National Education Union (NEU). It was great to be able to speak at the University of Staffordshire's International Pedagogic Conference last week. Ongoing Module Dialogue is a co-created piece of work, aimed at gathering live student feedback at three points during a module, providing lecturers with a tool to be more reactive to students needs and allowing students to see the tangible impact in their responses during their sessions. This is one of the last things I was working on as vice president at Staffordshire University Students' Union and being able to see the pilot nearing completion, and having early feedback to present with Juan Raman Mullor and Dr Duncan Hindmarch was great to see! https://lnkd.in/eK8isutf

It's good work with good people. As simple and fab as that.

The most important element of this post is the focus on process over outcome. It’s not one process it’s multiple processes that work in complex concert with each other - care for students, high expectations, support to meet those expectations and the building of self belief through mastery and progress.
