Wraparound Childcare in England will only receive a met or a not met grading from Ofsted. What that means is not only does the regulator not really offer commentary on the quality of the practice that they observe through inspection, but that owners, managers and practitioners are confused as to what good practice looks like. A key element of the guidance around the National Wraparound Childcare Programme is delivery of quality practice in provision set up or scaled up under the programme. But with no meaningful measures that are accessible and easily understood by wraparound providers, how can that be achieved, when it's so very difficult to be objective about quality provision; what does good even look like? Today we issued a Management Advisory recommending that the National Park Service (NPS) provide clarity and updated guidance regarding the operation of childcare centers on NPS lands. In the course of other work, we learned that Yosemite National Park Childcare Center operates two childcare facilities at Yosemite National Park. We identified what appears to be a lack of clarity regarding the requirements set forth in the relevant NPS guidance. In particular, there appears to be uncertainty as to whether the two facilities must be licensed by California and, if not, what requirements apply to these centers and what entity should enforce those requirements. We made four recommendations to NPS. You can read the full Management Advisory here: https://lnkd.in/giDHPYiW.

Petition Support families by bringing nannies into the 15/30 hours free childcare scheme We would like the government to support more families by including Ofsted nannies in the 15/30 hours free childcare scheme. Nannies are a critical pillar of the childcare sector and their inclusion could maximise the options available to working parents and drive UK productivity. More details We believe working practices demand flexible childcare and nannies uniquely meet these needs. For example, they may often be the only childcare solution for families with special needs. Including Ofsted nannies in the scheme could drive the UK’s productivity by helping more families secure and afford the flexible and professional childcare they need. Engaging another valuable childcare resource could also reduce the pressure on struggling nurseries, enhancing the scheme's overall efficiency.” https://lnkd.in/efx8WwMk

This comprehensive report on childcare shows a drop in childcare places and high increases in childcare costs. It is interesting that they have included the extra costs for parents who access 'free childcare' - this is a particular barrier for lower income parents. It is stark to see the lack of sufficiency of childcare for children with disabilities.
Released today! Days away from the first phase of major expansion to childcare support, our new research reveals a bleak picture for families, with dramatic drops in the availability of childcare places, and above-inflation rise in childcare costs. Childcare Survey 2024: https://lnkd.in/dZajqgnr
