One of the latest digital health reports shows a change: in 2012, 40% of individuals aged 16-74 were turning to the internet for health info. By 2022, this surged to 60% across 32 countries world-wide. 📈 This 20% increase in just ten years highlights the expanding role of digital tools in healthcare, driven by better infrastructure and health literacy. It's a clear signal of digital health's growing impact, paving the way for services like telemedicine, especially vital for those in remote areas. The last decade's growth is just the start. #WHO's famous World Health Report outlines three objectives for an effective health system: #health, #fairness of financing, and responsiveness. While the first two are often discussed, #responsiveness tends get less attention. Responsiveness is the "ability of the health system to meet the legitimate expectations of the population for non-health enhancing aspects". It’s about delivering health services in a way that people can actually receive them: Preserving #dignity, #confidentiality, #autonomy, providing prompt #attention, #social support, basic amenities, and allowing a #choice of provider. Fast forward from 2000, the year the World Health Report was published, and we were using flip phones, to today’s era of #digitalhealth and #digitaltherapy. I feel like digital solutions can enhance all 7 dimensions of health system responsiveness: 👑 Dignity: Digital therapy platforms offer secure and private communication channels, preserving patient dignity. 🔏 Confidentiality: Robust security measures in electronic health records protect patient data. 🕊 Autonomy: Digital tools provide patients with access to their health information, enabling them to make informed decisions. ⏱ Prompt Attention: Telemedicine services and digital health applications minimize wait times and ensure timely medical attention. 👐 Social Support: Online support groups and social networks offer emotional and psychological support to patients. 🏠 Basic Amenities: While digital solutions can’t provide physical amenities, they can enhance healthcare delivery efficiency. 🔎 Choice of Provider: Digital platforms broaden the range of options for patients when choosing healthcare providers. As we shift towards #vbhc where outcomes are key, it’s vital to ensure patients #adhere to evidence-based treatments. A non-responsive health system risks low #adherence rates and poor outcomes. 《Digital Health in RCM75》 #Digital health is rapidly evolving in the World Health Organization Health Oranization Western Pacific Region, yet its full potential remains untapped due to challenges like governance, financing, and data security. Strong governance is essential to align digital health initiatives with national priorities and ensure data protection, while sustainable financing is needed to invest in infrastructure and workforce capacity. Without addressing these issues, progress remains uneven across the region. Advancing people-centered technologies, such as telemedicine and mobile health, can significantly improve health outcomes and expand access to care, particularly in underserved areas. However, the success of these technologies depends on robust infrastructure, including internet connectivity, electronic health records, and a well-trained workforce to implement and manage these innovations. The World Health Organization is working closely with countries in the Western Pacific to accelerate digital health transformation. World Health Organization (WHO) aims to strengthen governance frameworks, improve workforce capacity, and secure sustainable financing. The 75th session of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific (#RCM75) emphasizes the need for inclusive digital health policies, regional collaboration, and public-private partnerships to ensure that these advancements are equitable and secure. 📢 Exciting News in Healthcare Innovation from Turkiye! 🏥💡 The Social Security Institution of Turkiye (SGK) that are set to reshape the landscape of digital healthcare in our country. 🔹 What's New? Social security Institution has recently updated the Health Implementation Communiqué (SUT) to introduce pivotal changes in how remote patient evaluation services are billed and provided. These services across all medical specialties will now utilize the "520032 Remote patient evaluation services" transaction code, as per SUT’s Annex 2/B list. 🔹 Enhanced Accessibility & Efficiency In a significant move, when these services are delivered by third-level health service providers affiliated with the Ministry of Health, the charges will be double the standard transaction point. This adjustment is a strong step towards enhancing the accessibility and efficiency of healthcare services, making it easier for patients to receive quality care remotely. 🔹 Limitations & Coverage It's also worth noting that SGK will cover the cost for no more than one remote health service per patient per day from the same provider. This ensures a balanced approach to accessibility and resource management. 🔹 The Impact? The integration of digital services into our healthcare system, a trend accelerated by the pandemic, is crucial. This new regulation not only supports this need but also aims to reduce costs, save time, and decrease the necessity for in-person healthcare visits.
