Today’s episode is about our Reads and Recovery book of the month, Dry: A Memoir by Augusten Burroughs. I loved this book! I’m giving it an enthusiastic rating of 4 Paws! Recovery Readometer Scale: 1 Bark – Not really engaging, but had a couple of interesting moments. 2 Wags – A pleasant read with some enjoyable parts. 3 Woofs – Engaging and enjoyable, a solid read. 4 Paws – Really loved this book; it was hard to put down. 5 Tail Wags – An all-time favorite, resonated deeply on a personal level. I love the characters in his life. He does such a good job of portraying each of them, from Pighead, his former lover and best friend who is dying, to Jim, his undertaker drinking buddy, to coworker Greer—I want to be her friend 😅. So where could I relate to the experiences of the author? Everywhere. That’s what’s interesting about our disease. It doesn’t discriminate. We are all very different people, with very different life experiences, all suffering from the same disease. 🎧 Listen to this review episode whether you read or didn't—I don't have any spoilers! https://lnkd.in/eU2uQkHG #dryamemoir #readsandrecovery #recoverydailypodcast #bookreview #recoverypodcast #recoverydaily #recoverycommunity

🚀 New Episode Alert: Spam Filter for Your Brain - Podcast 97 🎧 In this week’s episode, "I can't stop comparing myself to other people," we dive deep into the natural human tendency to compare ourselves to others and how it impacts our mental well-being. Join me, as I dismantle the myth that comparison is solely a bad habit and explore its roots and implications. 🔑 **3 Key Takeaways:** - **Natural Instinct**: Comparison is deeply ingrained in our genetic makeup. For our ancestors, it meant survival, guiding them on what was safe, acceptable, and essential for survival. - **Modern Misalignment**: Today, our brains are bombarded with unrealistic comparisons, especially on social media, resulting in unnecessary stress. Recognizing this can help us be kinder to ourselves. - **Inner Reflection**: When you catch yourself comparing, use it as an opportunity to explore your unmet needs or insecurities. What are you really seeking - security, happiness, comfort? Addressing these can lead to personal growth and self-compassion. 🌱 Transform comparison from a source of shame to a path of self-awareness and growth. 👉 Interested in diving deeper into self-compassion and practical self-care techniques? Welcome to our 4th Weekly Healing Practice! The quote for this episode is byByron Katie: “It’s not your job to like me - it’s mine.” I invite you to join me this week in a Healing Practice for cultivating connection with awareness when I’m shaky with Self-Love. I set the Intention to notice when I am asking another Being to hold my own Self-Love for me. Please Guide my Attention into awareness of moments when I am not connected to loving and accepting myself, such as: 📌 When I acting in shadowy compromises that are outside the guidance that is coming from my True Self and engaging me in actions that are outside self-worth and self-acceptance, 📌 Having actions that are subtly seeking outer validation and approval instead of asking for my connections to help celebrate a win with me, 📌 or Engaging with actions that are trying to convince me my worth is based on outer approval in some form or fashion. Help me pause, soften, and look inward in those moments or awareness. Help my attention Flow to the tender Parts of me, the little ones that have forgotten or never had the luxury of knowing their innate worth and likeability. Asking, What do I need internally right now to cultivate Self-Love and Worthiness so that I can be in a clean relationship with the other? Help me listen and match my inner guidance. Books make Mondays better! I used to be a read-one-book-at-a-time kind of person, but I'm now a read-two-books-at-a-time person to support my magical reading and writing habit in the morning. This week, I'm just starting a book recommended by Rachel Hollis on her podcast: No Bad Parts by Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D. It's introducing me to the Internal Family Systems model of psychology and healing to help us change our lives. It's interesting, it's important and it's helping me change the way I think. Plus...the line art on the cover is gorgeous. =) What books are making YOUR Monday better? @internalfamilysystems

My guest in episode 62 of Seeing Death Clearly is Sue Burns, author of the book A Common Life, A Voice from the Progressive Era where she published her great-great grandmother Mary's diary from the late 19th century Iowa farm life. Sue tells us that as she was researching to write the book, she found places where clearly that entry does not belong here, it goes someplace else. Even after doing that, she is sure there are still things in the wrong place. That's the thing about most diaries, when you write for yourself, you don't make it explicit. Including the date, month, and year with page numbers will help people know that this page comes after this page. Including more details about the person that I'm writing about, you don't write that kind of stuff because you know that stuff. A hundred years later, somebody has to try and do the work to figure that out or it doesn't make sense. The diaries themselves are often very hard to read just because you don't have the context. You don't know who they're talking about. You don't know what's going on. That would be the one thing that she wants to encourage anybody who's writing a diary, if you think that maybe somebody somewhere down the road will use this as a resource include those details. Listen to this full episode to learn more about Sue’s book and about leaving a legacy behind with a written document. #Diary #Legacy #SeeingDeathClearly #EndOfLifeCare #DeathDoula #NormalizeDeath #EndOfLifeJourney #PodcastEpisode #Podcast #Death #Deathcare #Holistic #Authentic #Conversations #EndOfLifeConversations #DeathConversations #EndofLifeDoula #FemalePodcasters #DeathPodcasts #PodcastAboutDeath #PodcastDeathAndDying #PodcastAboutDying #LifeAfterDeathPodcast #LifeAndDeathPodcast #DeathPodcast
