The onboarding process, this is the key to successful recruitment, and there is a reason why the most productive companies plan for at least 12-weeks. The first few weeks in a new role can shape an employee’s entire experience. A strong onboarding process isn’t just about the initial welcome—it’s about setting the foundation for long-term productivity and engagement. Here’s why structuring onboarding for at least the first 12 weeks matters: 1. Clarity and Confidence: New hires gain a clear understanding of their role, expectations, and how their work contributes to the bigger picture. 2. Building Relationships: Structured time to meet colleagues and teams fosters collaboration and creates a sense of belonging. 3. Skill Development: Gradual, planned training ensures employees can effectively perform their tasks without feeling overwhelmed. 4. Feedback and Adjustment: Regular check-ins help address concerns early and allow the employee to grow into the role with support. When onboarding is treated as a long-term investment rather than a quick tick-box exercise, it leads to higher retention, stronger teams, and better results. In today's competitive job market, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires is paramount. 🙌 Yet, all too often, companies overlook the significance of a robust onboarding process. DID YOU KNOW?! 𝙊𝙣𝙡𝙮 12% 𝙤𝙛 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙤𝙣𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 - 𝙂𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙪𝙥 😲 😲 😲 🤢 that's bad................... Makes me wonder... New hire onboarding is especially important to me because... I have experience building out a 10 day comprehensive Onboarding Boot Camp that is rooted in educational theory, designed to decrease ramp timelines, increase revenue growth, and maximize new hire satisfaction/engagement/retention. I think new hire onboarding falls into 3 buckets: 1️⃣ HR/Admin/IT Onboarding This is all the "stuff" that HAS to be completed in order for an employee to compliantly, legally, and physically be able to be employed at an organization and do the job they were hired to do. These processes should be easily repeatable for every new hire onboarding cohort & as seamless as possible (both from the admin perspective and the new hire's). 2️⃣ Company/Industry-Specific Onboarding This is the introduction to the company values & culture, org charts (who does what?), internal processes and systems, what the company does, what problems the company solves, and high-level information about the industry that is relevant to all employees at the company. 3️⃣ Department / Role-Specific Onboarding In my opinion, this third bucket is by the MOST important, in terms, of employee satisfaction and retention (and usually the bucket that is MOST lacking from organizations)!!! I have sooooo much more to say about each of these 3 Onboarding "buckets". Are you interested?
