Two years ago, something incredible began. In a small community where single mothers worked tirelessly in a stone quarry just to put food on the table, the dream of a brighter future seemed distant. But at NMF Uganda, we saw the potential in the children of these hardworking mothers. We believed that with access to education, their lives could be transformed. That's how Trey Junior School was born;a non profit school created to give these children a chance. What started with a handful of students has now grown into a school of 208 children, from baby class to primary five. These children are not just numbers; they are stories of hope, resilience, and a future waiting to be written. But our journey doesn't stop here. The growing number of children and the expanded reach of our services beyond Wakiso means we urgently need to expand the school. We are raising funds to purchase more land and build more classrooms up to primary seven, establish a boarding section, and construct essential facilities like a kitchen, canteen, storage spaces, recreation areas, a sick bay, and a library. Did you know that over 80% of Muslims in the UK contribute to charity? Collectively, the Muslim community alone donate over a staggering £1 billion annually, making the community one of the largest donor groups in the UK. Of this total, approximately £400 million is given in Zakah, a mandatory form of giving for those who fall within the threshold, which requires Muslims to contribute 2.5% of their annual savings from their wealth. Studies also show that Muslims give a higher percentage of their income to charity compared to many other demographic groups, most notably during Ramadhan.
