Without core values, you don’t have a team. You have chaos. On Thursday, I had the pleasure of leading a values workshop for one of my newest clients. They were keen to align and connect their team ahead of their 2025 growth plans, and the energy in the room was infectious! We started with over 20 words that represented the business and, by the end of our session, we condensed those down to just four core values—short, snappy phrases that embody not only who they are today but also where they are headed as a business. Here’s a glimpse of what we accomplished during the workshop: 1. Clarified Business Strategy: We took the time to dissect the overarching business strategy, ensuring that everyone understood the direction and key goals for the upcoming year. 2. Identified Core Values: We facilitated discussions that allowed the team to explore the values that resonate with their culture and aspirations. This wasn’t merely about creating a list—it was about discovering what truly matters to them. 3. Aligned with Vision: We linked these values directly to the company’s vision, ensuring that every team member understands how their contributions support the larger mission. 4. Defined Behaviors that Support Each Value: We established specific behaviours that exemplify each core value, guiding the team on how to embody these principles in their daily work. 5. Developed a Rollout Plan: We crafted a comprehensive plan for communicating these values throughout the organisation, designating a champion to advocate for the new values over the next six months and beyond. By the end of the workshop, the team left feeling energised and excited, ready to implement these values as a foundation for their future growth.
