- About passion, stress & relief. - Why do we choose one product over another? https://lnkd.in/ed-4Epmp Some brands start with a spark of an idea. Others emerge to meet a specific need. And then, there are those born from the dreams of a single person. There are stories that resonate with me—those born from ideas, from seeing the world through a lens of beauty and aesthetics. Quoc Pham is a perfect example of this. He merged his career, his dreams, and his deep love for aesthetics into the creation of QUOC Cycling Shoes. As I captured photos of some of QUOC’s products for @manifiesto_estudio in Mexico City, I found myself drawn to his story. It made me wonder about the journey we all take—the creative processes we navigate. No matter the role we play, it may be in the arts or behind a desk, we pour our passion into projects, only to sometimes face stress and the inevitable plateaus. But we, as cyclists, have a remedy for that stress: we ride. My sons have been blessed to interact with the Creighton Preparatory School network of runners. This weekend my son, James, is doing a triathlon with an array of his former teammates in Chattanooga, TN. And, my son, Denny, is competing in the Nebraska State Track meet in Omaha. Together, these represent parts of the journey. However, I am writing about an ecosystem topic that I have watched from afar and marveled at its success - the Prep Running Nerd (https://lnkd.in/gcakXBFx). Jay Slagle, father of my son's teammates Henry and Jack Slagle, has facilitated something uncommon, a community. In general, the running community is extremely positive and supportive. But, Nebraska's, through Jay's selfless efforts, has become something more. He started a blog where he took pictures and posted simple recaps of races. He did this in his spare time and occasionally at his son's races. But, then he started doing more. And, then others followed him to become "nerds". Now, there are tens of photographers cataloging almost every race form junior high to college in the state. Moreover, throughout the stands and within the pool of actual athletes, there are "nerd" shirts everywhere. This level of attention has transformed my personal knowledge of the community along with hundreds (if not thousands) of others. Jay has inspired the community to be more. This is what ecosystem building looks like. We have to tell the stories of the heroes in our midst - not just those that achieve something great to those outside of the community. But, be an affirmation of the community, for the community, and by the community. To have a great ecosystem, you must start from within and build what you want to see in the community. Prep Running Nerd is one of the clearest examples that I have witnessed. Check it out to see amazing stories, but also the boring part of running and recording times. It is amazing!

Some really cool life lessons as a surf photographer: 5. Embrace the ebb & flow - The journey is just as important as the highlights. 4. Trust you're on the right path. You are where you are meant to be. 3. Just keep swimming! You're going to have to work for it, but keep going and keep your head up. 2. Practice the art. Water droplets, motion blur, framing, etc can add so much beauty. Sometimes it's a happy little accident, but most of the time, you have to sharpen your skills and consistently practice at getting better. 1. Have fun. It's all a creative journey.
