In these crazy times, I'm doubling down on good work....and Trident United Way does good work. We serve ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed)--hardworking households that just can't make ends meet. Maybe the of parents of small children are only able to work part-time jobs; maybe a senior on a fixed income sees their purchasing power shrink while the cost of living grows. I grew up ALICE. Did you? So how do we help? Trident United Way is a connector, linking people in need with agencies that can help them. Trident United Way provides direct services, whether it's funds, food, school supplies or so much more. Trident United Way runs two Resource Connection Centers, brick-and-mortar sites where we can serve our neighbors. We need more centers to reach more people. This holiday season, consider helping us ignite the light and raise funds for our next Resource Connection Center so we can reach more people in need next year and every year. Please consider a gift. A share. Creating your own fundraising page. All dollars stay in the Tri-County. Be a light this year! https://lnkd.in/euEPfbwd

As a member of the Ram Athletic Fund Board I have made my donation for #VCUGivingDay to support the Student-Athlete Philanthropic Fund. I ask you to consider doing the same. No gift is too small I know many of my connections here started at VCU. Many of you were former athletes. Please consider using the link below to give. Help us meet our $18,000 dollar for dollar match that directly supports our 339 student-athletes. Please consider making a gift today that directly supports the Student-Athlete Philanthropic Fund. When you give to the Student-Athlete Philanthropic Fund, you provide the support our student-athletes need to achieve excellence. You provide scholarship money for bright and talented students who otherwise might not be able to attend VCU. You cover the costs associated with school for students whose busy schedules don't allow for outside employment. You make resources that support student-athletes' well-being possible. You show our athletes you believe in them. Below are just some of the costs per student-athlete this academic year. Medical and Mental Health Support: $2,555 Academic Support: $2,238 Books and Supplies: $1,240 Give the number of student-athletes (339 SA): $339 One month of extra nutritious meals per student-athlete: $168 Your support means the world to us, and with your help, we can reach our goal and secure the full $18,000 match. Did you know that 30.4 million students in America can't afford their school meals? The average annual cost per child is $180.60, and 68.8% of surveyed schools have unpaid meal debt. Even more concerning, 96% of school districts report an increase in the number of students who can't afford their meals year after year. In Texas alone, there are 1,658,680 food-insecure children. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a reality that many families face. It’s time we step up and make a difference. https://lnkd.in/gRGzG3wd At The Robb Kelly Foundation, we are dedicated to helping children and families in need, but we can’t do it alone. Every dollar counts. Your donation today can help feed a child, provide support, and give them a chance at a better future. If you're looking to make an impact, please consider donating to The Robb Kelly Foundation. Together, we can fight hunger and bring hope to families across the nation. #MakeADifference #EndChildHunger #RobbKellyFoundation Ray Trevino CEO

In the realm of major gift & capital campaign fundraising -one thing is for certain... Volunteerism is a key to raising significant revenues, accessing advocates to further the cause has no price but has great value. It can't be done with them. I recently said to a Founder of a wonderful organization that nothing happens without a 'champion'. Often this is a passionate volunteer who freely gives of their time, talent, and treasure. But what about us who are 'paid to raise'? Do we need to give of our time as well? Absolutely. I am a better practitioner because of my unpaid involvements in organizations like Rotary International, AFP Global, among others. Today I wish to let you know about an organization that I volunteer with, that is all volunteer run -no paid staff at all. M4M www.Medals4Mettle.org was started by Dr. Steve Isenberg MD almost 20 years ago. Competitive runners like myself award medals to cancer patients, plus others with life-threatening conditions. Both children and adults who are in the throws of cancer are the recipients of medals to encourage them in their own race. to date, an astounding 70,000 medals have been given. Wow. The medals are awarded to individuals who are "running a much more difficult race," often with an unknown finish line. The mission of M4M is to appreciate the pay-it-forward concept that links the distance runner’s mettle with the mettle it takes to battle life challenges. The donor's acknowledgement of the recipient's mettle encourages the recipient and creates a human connection honouring the grit, courage, and bravery they share. #medals4mettle #doitbecause

What a great organization helping another great organization
St. Claire HealthCare is pleased to support local organizations with similar missions. On Monday, SCH President/CEO Donald H. Lloyd, II, and Mindy Highley, SCH Executive Director of Community Engagement and Philanthropy presented a $50,000 check to Bev Gilliam, Director of the Rowan County Christian Social Services to allow that organization to better address community needs. “St. Claire is honored to help organizations who share a vision of bettering the lives of the people of eastern Kentucky,” said Lloyd. “There is a tremendous need for the services provided by Christian Social Services in Rowan County and they are making a difference in our community every single day.”

Why It Matters:
I’d love to see you at this amazing event coming up on May 4. Vana Carmona shares her research on Maine and the area we now call Westbrook, Gorham, and Portland. Uncovering enslavement in Maine and Westbrook in the 17th & 18th Centuries, with Vana Carmona of The Prince Project Sat, May 4, 1:30-2:30pm Westbrook Community Center, Oak Rm 426 Bridge St, Westbrook, ME Ten years ago, Vana Carmona discovered the gravestone of a man named Prince near several of her family’s burial plots. Learning he had been enslaved by her ancestors, she embarked on a historical quest to find others. Soon she found out that enslavement in Maine was more common than she ever believed. Moreover, many of our founding fathers were also complicit in human trafficking from Africa. Today, Vana's research has evolved into The Prince Project, now a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization. It has a database of almost 2000 people of color who lived in Maine prior to 1800, including Westbrook. The result has been a unique uncovering of enslavement in Maine, a history that is often misconstrued - if not ignored. Come learn about the history of Westbrook's early residents and their involvement in chattel slavery that was not made illegal in the State of Massachusetts (including the lands we now call Maine) until 1783.

It was an honor to serve RaiseUp Families as their Executive Director for nearly 4 years. In that time, the organization experienced unprecedented growth: ✅ Expanded Board of Directors by 50% ✅ Doubled the number of families (clients) being served ✅ Client outcomes improved by 100% (average income increase in signature 9-month HandUp program went from 35% - 71%) ✅ Client graduation rate improved from 80% to 91% ✅ Revenue growth from $450,000 to $1,000,015 (donations from private sources) These outcomes are a result of the Board of Directors and staff working together towards a common goal, each person utilizing their unique skills and abilities in their individual role to help the bus arrive at its desired destination. They are the result of hours and hours of innovation, hard work, and determination. As RaiseUp Families celebrates its 30th Anniversary of stabilizing families from vulnerable communities who face unexpected financial crises so their children can focus on their education, giving them the opportunity for a better life, it needs a full-time leader with passion, vision, and experience to lead it forward. I could not be happier that Kate Yadan will pick up this torch and lead RaiseUp into the future! "We know that change is a natural part of life, and those who embrace it grow while those who do not slowly die, metaphorically. Two of the largest obstacles to change are ego and pride. Moving out of our own way is the toughest battle most of us will face. Giving up our seat for someone else, stepping down when it's time for someone else to step up, and gracefully exiting when we have added all the value we can, are what we should all strive for." -Angela Burgess, Are You on the Right Bus?
We are THRILLED to annouce a big change at RaiseUp Families! After a rigorous search, Kate Yadan was named our newest Executive Director as of March 1, 2024! Kate's knowledge and experience are unparalleled, and more importantly, her passion for stabilizing families from vulnerable communities so their children have the opportunity for a brighter future knows no bounds. We are incredibly grateful to Angela Burgess for sharing her vision and leadership with our clients, our staff, our board of directors, and our community over the last four years and wish her well in her future endeavors! Come out and welcome Kate at our 2024 RaiseUp Families Graduation Celebration! Sponsorships and Tickets are on sale now: https://lnkd.in/g3pn6Bjk
