California is at the epicenter of global demand for long-duration storage. This week’s announcement by the California Public Utilities Commission proposes the procurement of over 10 GW of new energy resources (that do not use lithium-ion) including 1 GW of multi-day long-duration energy storage (LDES) and another 1 GW of 12-hour-plus LDES. Mark Higgins Redflow’s CCO said, “Redflow has a strong track record in delivering behind-the-meter microgrids in California for critical infrastructure which has put us on the radar of those looking at long-duration storage. Our next-generation large-scale product will be ready to offer a highly competitive and perfectly positioned solution for these new ambitious procurement projects. We continue to lay the groundwork for long-term success in California’s enormous front-of-meter market”. Read the full article here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gncSNX39

Check out my most recent article published on Energy-Storage.news ! In this piece, I took a look at a report from the California Energy Commission (CEC) which highlights the importance of energy storage facilities with a discharge duration of 8 hours or more. As grid operators around the world look to decarbonise and reach net-zero targets over the next few decades, it’ll be fascinating to see which long duration storage technologies emerge as viable utility-scale options. #EnergyStorage #LDES #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #NetZero

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has proposed the procurement of over 10GW of new #energy resources, including 2GW of long duration energy storage. Following the California Energy Commission's (CEC) emphasis on the importance of energy storage with an eight-hour or more discharge, this is the latest signal that LDES is being embraced as a powerful #decarbonization solution. The procurement seeks #LDES with 1GW multi-day energy storage and 1GW with a 12-hour or more discharge, alongside 1GW of #geothermal systems and 7.6GW of offshore #wind, totaling 10.6GW of nameplate capacity. California currently has over 10GW of battery storage, with projections indicating 52GW will be needed to achieve the state's goal of 100% #renewable energy by 2045. The #Time4Action is now to ensure #3xRenewables by 2030. To learn more, click below:
