🌍 International Day for the Abolition of Slavery 🌟 Today, we honor the fight for freedom and justice, recognising the horrors of slavery in history—and acknowledging that the battle isn’t over. While traditional slavery was abolished in the 19th century, modern slavery still affects millions of lives worldwide. 💔 📌 Did you know? ➡️ Over 50 million people are currently trapped in modern slavery. ➡️ 1 in 4 victims of modern slavery are children. ➡️ Over 22 million people are in forced marriages, unable to leave. ➡️ Migrant workers and vulnerable groups are at the highest risk. 💡 What is modern slavery? Modern slavery takes many forms, including: 🔗 Forced labor 🔗 Human trafficking 🔗 Child exploitation 🔗 Debt bondage 🔗 Forced or exploitative marriages It’s a global problem, generating a shocking $150 billion in illicit profits every year. Despite its hidden nature, we can recognise and fight it together. 🔍 How to Spot Modern Slavery: Look for these warning signs in your community: 🚩 Poor working conditions or restricted freedom. 🚩 Fearful, controlled, or isolated behavior. 🚩 No access to personal ID or finances. 🚩 Unexplained injuries or lack of autonomy. If something feels off, trust your instincts and report it. Your actions could save someone’s life. ✊ How You Can Help: 🌱 Support ethical and fair-trade brands. 📚 Educate yourself and others about modern slavery. 💙 Donate to anti-slavery organisations. 🧑🤝🧑 Volunteer or advocate for stronger policies against exploitation. Every step, no matter how small, helps create a world where everyone can live free. Together, we can make a difference. 💪✨ Let’s shine a light on this hidden crisis and work towards a future where slavery is truly abolished. Share this post, talk about the issue, and raise awareness. 🙌 #EndSlavery #HumanRights #ModernSlaveryAwareness #FreedomForAll

Wycombe Women's Aid is a member of Women's Aid Federation England (WAFE), the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. WAFE's latest public awareness campaign brings attention to the Ignored Emergency: -Domestic abuse is a national emergency, but is often not seen in this way -Many turn a blind eye to the danger faced by countless women and children -Domestic abuse needs to be recognised as a public emergency on a scale with fire and traffic accidents -Women are 50 times more likely to be injured by their partner than in a house fire -Women are twice as likely to die at the hands of their partner than from smoke and gas inhalation -Women are over three times more likely to be killed by a partner than by not wearing a seatbelt Domestic abuse poses a larger risk to the lives of women than house fires and car accidents. Domestic abuse is prevalent and it is deadly. The Ignored Emergency features two key films, 'Fire Safety' and 'Car Safety': https://lnkd.in/eDPz7sKG https://lnkd.in/ee2wAs_s Domestic abuse is the emergency we are ignoring. This needs to change. The statistics remain harrowing: -One in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime -At least one woman a week is killed During this time of activism we need to come together and commit to ending domestic abuse against women and girls. Together we are stronger. Together we can change the future. At Child & Family Service, we’re redefining our approach to addressing domestic violence. Our work goes far beyond immediate intervention- we’re committed to comprehensive, holistic support that addresses root causes of abuse and empowers survivors to rebuild their lives. As our CEO Amanda Pump powerfully states, “The community must provide the infrastructure people need to stabilize and thrive.” This philosophy drives our data-driven approach to understanding and addressing community needs.
