The rock band Killdozer were big proponents of constantly improving. Killdozer's iterations of rock standards raised the song they covered to new levels. They emphasized the positive while giving constructive feedback on the "less than positive". Learn from the past, improve upon the positive, and try to fix the negative was their MO. In the professional world, we could all learn a lot from Killdozer. Read more about why Killdozer was an important part of cultural history in my latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gbeeUFng #reinvention, #constantimproving

Did you know the keyboards on an organ have different names? On this organ, I have a Grand Orgue, Récit, and Bombarde! They each serve a different function and control unique sections of the organ. This allows the organist to have control over the different colors of sound. #OrganMusic #ClassicalMusic #ChurchMusic #MusicEducation #MusicAndYou #MusicCommunity #ViralMusic #KeepListening #FunFacts #Organist

Last summer I worked on a bass sequencer called "Citric-03" together with my fellow students Anton Göransson and Axel Månson Lokrantz. It is heavily inspired by the classic Roland TB-303, but with a cleaner and not so intimidating interface. It uses the Electrosmith Daisy Seed to generate pulses of sawtooth waves which sound can be manipulated both musically and tonally. Citric-03 has functions for changing between musical modes such as dorian and lydian but also pure chromatic for acid-needs. Within each mode you can "shuffle" to get random notes, and "slide" to get a nice transition between notes. You can control tempo, cut-off, resonance, envelope modulation, decay and distortion as well. It supports a sequence of 16 notes which can be modified using 8 buttons and a page-switch. The sound comes pretty close to the real deal i think! (1:20 and onwards in the demo has some nice examples) Demo: https://lnkd.in/e-sEdYxi

Friends, I want to share my creative achievement! 🎵 A year ago, I created a unique musical instrument, but only now have I decided to present it. The idea came about accidentally when I played a violin bow on a metal clothes dryer and heard interesting, though eerily scary, resonances. This inspired me to create an instrument that I called "Metal Flowers". From that terribly scary sound, I wanted to turn it into something beautiful. It seems to me that it sounds like a mix of wind and string instruments. If you're interested in learning more about "Metal Flowers", let me know in the comments! In the meantime, I invite you to listen to a short demo of this unusual instrument. 🎶 #Music #Creativity #Innovation #SoundDesign #MetalFlowers

Musical Musing Friday's "Ballad of a Thin Man" by Bob Dylan is today's choice... one of my favorite of Dylan's work - this one might be "lesser known" but still is evocative, effective, powerful and poignant. “Mr. Jones" – the character who is the “thin man” - finds himself bewildered and out of place in various situations, encountering strange people and events that he cannot comprehend. This seems to fit many aspects of how many people feel about the way society is – from all angles – and how it is so very different than might be “expected.” This can be seen as someone not being comfortable with changes – or not being comfortable with those uncomfortable with those changes. It cuts both ways. The lyrics repeatedly emphasize Mr. Jones's alienation and middlin’ understanding with lines like, "Something is happening here, but you don't know what it is, do you, Mr. Jones?" Mr. Jones is, to me, representative of people who feel disconnected from or judgmental toward the never ending and always changing social, political, and cultural landscape. This song has aged all too well – as we seem to not have progressed beyond being able to assimilate and adapt to, much less appreciate or understand the complexities of the changes abounding. The fear of things not well understood, the fighting back, the grasp to hold onto “normal” and the push to block equal rights based on assumptions that ignore historical facts or norms – all are addressed in this song, in one form or another. Obviously written with a satirical edge, Dylan was offering a commentary on superficial understandings, where people observe but don’t truly understand the deeper layers of the things they are believing in, voting for or otherwise supporting. This remains so very important and true even today. "Ballad of a Thin Man" reflects a divide within our society, something never more apparent than it currently is – and will likely remain for some time to come – with no real solution in sight as the center of the division, as I see it, is around being ok with the old norms vs being accepting of change.
