Funding can often be a hindrance to urban planning. Therefore, it's nice to have Bill Gates and Jeff Bezzo in Washington to make donations to local community efforts. The latest donation (from Jeff Bezzo)(not sure how much they have donated) is to the affordable housing crisis. As much as we need affordable housing, building and sustaining them requires capital. In partnership with religious centers (land) and non-profits, and developers... we can build more affordable housing.

PCI Developments, a Vancouver real estate development company has supported The Vancouver Sun’s Adopt-A-School campaign for ten years. Company president Tim Grant says people in the company first heard about the plight of hungry children from a colleague in the industry. “When we first heard about the issue of children coming to school hungry and needing to be fed we were quite frankly shocked,” Grant said. The company has donated $79,000 this year to help children in four Vancouver inner city schools and has committed to supporting one of the schools Queen Alexandra for five years. This past year I have proudly dedicated my time as a Board member and Volunteer to Humble Design Chicago. They provide design services, donated furniture, bedding, kitchen items, curtains and everything else that goes into turning a house into a home for families that have successfully fought their way out of homelessness at no cost.  Our work takes away the stress from our clients so that they can successfully focus on their families and their jobs, while being proud of what they have accomplished.  This year we have seen an uptick in the amount of mothers, children and veterans seeking a fresh start. Our organization needs more support than ever to meet the increasing demand. We are seeking humble monetary donations from our Humble friends to help. It’s an investment that changes lives and our communities, as less than 6% of Humble Design clients return to homelessness after one year, compared with the national statistic of 50%.Just as we help our family and friends when they get their first place and have significant life changes, I would like to raise enough to help at least one family make this transition.  Each deco day moves children off the floor and puts them into warm beds, give their parents peace of mind and hope, and allow families to gather and plan their futures around a kitchen table.Can I please get your help towards my goal by making a donation? Today’s Hard Reality: Eviction of a Family Today, we find ourselves in Memphis, Tennessee, at the Shelby County Courthouse for an eviction proceeding. It's a heartbreaking situation: one of our tenants fell on hard times, something completely out of their control. As property managers and real estate professionals, we must approach this as a business decision, ensuring quick and decisive action. Allowing emotions to dictate decisions in this line of work can lead to failure. That said, we're not without compassion. We did everything in our power to help this tenant, but unfortunately, we ran out of options. If today’s proceedings are successful, they will have 10 days to vacate the property. The hardest part is knowing they don’t currently have anywhere to go. In the spirit of community and humanity, we’ve set up a GoFundMe to support this family in securing future housing and staying sheltered through the holiday season and beyond. Realtors(r) are engaged with the community and volunteer their time and money. After all, they live in the community in which they serve. That no doubt reflects and contributes to 90% satisfaction rating from recent home buyers and home sellers about their specific realtor(r) with whom they worked with. As in any industry there may be few bad apples looking to cut corners. Fortunately they are so many good ones that one can always ditch the bad ones and seek a better one.
