You are invited to a one-day convening of professional leaders at Gowbarrow Hall Farm – a pioneering agroecological farm, to explore a vision for regenerative economics through the lens of regenerative agriculture. This is relevant to those operating in the food (or fibre) system, and those investing in or building policy for nature recovery and restoration in agriculture contexts. The ‘Roots to Regenerative Economies’ day will give you an experiential taste of what it means to think like nature works in business, finance and government – learning from soil, plant, animal systems and ecosystems, from the UK’s leaders in regenerative agriculture. The event builds on Roots to Regeneration, the regenerative agriculture learning programme that brings together farmers with business and policy professionals through a two-year learning journey and cultural change programme. We will explore the roots of addressing climate change, biodiversity recovery, and place-based social and economic outcomes through these systems. The event will help participants understand what it will take [of their roles] to support the transition of our food and farming systems to regenerative agriculture, as a healthy foundation and metaphor for a Regenerative Economy. In particular, the day will reveal the significance of soil as the basis of all life and our economy. The beauty of regeneration lies in its flexibility: → It’s place-based, because no two farms, landscapes, or ecosystems are alike. → It’s adaptive, because what works today might need to evolve tomorrow. → It’s holistic, focusing on people & planet—not just profits. → And it’s deeply personal, shaped by the unique vision, care, and creativity of the people and communities who steward the land. Regeneration isn’t something that can be imposed from the outside. It grows from within—rooted in the relationships between humans and their environments, cultivated by those who know the land & community best. But at its heart, regeneration always comes back to one simple question: Are you inviting life back into the system? That’s what makes regeneration more than just sustainable—it’s transformational. The report identifies frictions from the perspective of finance to help establish a common understanding for why capital isn’t flowing to regenerative agriculture in larger amounts today. The report also provides a compendium of innovative financing instruments and structures currently deployed by financial actors for financing regenerative agriculture.
