Creating a virtual farm tour was definitely a game-changer for me! 🌱 It not only saved me hours of walking each new guest around to know where all the facilities are but also made it easier for guests to retain what I was sharing with them, since they could watch it on their own time and replay parts that were unclear. Virtual tours allow you to share your passion and knowledge with a much wider audience, bringing your message to those who might never be able to step foot on your farm👣 It can be a powerful tool for building community, educating, and inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices. Plus, it frees up more of your time to focus on what truly matters—growing, nurturing, and living the permaculture lifestyle 🌿 💬Have you tried a virtual approach to sharing your project? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!💬 If you haven't started yet, here's a beginner's guide to creating a virtual farm tour in 7 easy steps. As we enter the holiday season, I want to express gratitude for people stewarding long-term #ecosystem investments! I am a novice steward. For 2 years, I have begun the process of transforming 3 hectares of over plowed, former industrial food crop land in Uruguay into a permaculture food forest. Every day involves observing the land, modifying the mix of plants on the property, and testing and retesting all the best practices recommended to me by others to see what works in my landscape. Besides killing more than 50 trees in mistimed planting (ants are ravenous and climate change is real folks!); I also have the beginnings of a thriving tree/produce system that creates its own abundance without much direct intervention. I recently harvested a head-sized sunflower I never planted, and most of my early summer harvests are going to be volunteer tomatoes, herbs, salad, chard, pepper plants, and pumpkins (probably 3 months early!). Having begun this work on the land -- I can’t help but compare #landscape restoration to #communitybuilding: the best gifts grow from the reseeded unintended plants that require a bit of landscape preparation (i.e. resetting biology, planting beneficial flora and ensuring water collection). My organizing in Wikimedia focuses on supporting the conditions for the Wikimedia movement to grow relationships with passionate and aligned audiences: publishers, librarians, cultural institutions, human rights actors, sustainability activists, event organizers and more recently on-wiki content communities. Read about it here: https://lnkd.in/dcwg-wiE In most of these spaces, I focused on preparing parts of the international landscape for success: a handful of strategic interventions can make it far easier for others to see the opportunity, find their peers and grow their own solutions. Good interventions create space for the on-the-ground leaders to reseed new communities along the way. I love flourishing landscapes! As we approach the new year, let's celebrate all the long-term land stewards and community organizers doing the restorative landscaping work! We need much more of it in a world where global challenges threaten our wellbeing!

🌱 Empowering Communities: The Wisdom of Our Elders 🌍 In a world rapidly advancing with technology and innovation, we sometimes forget the incredible wealth of knowledge that lies within our elders. Recently, I had the privilege of spending time in various communities, educating them about the effects of climate change on their community gardens and how to build sustainability. Our elders, with their vast experience and deep connection to the land, are invaluable in this process. Their wisdom, coupled with the enthusiasm and energy of the younger generation, creates a powerful synergy. Together, we can address the challenges of climate change and ensure food security through community gardens. 🌿 Community Gardens: A Source of Nutrition and Unity Community gardens are more than just plots of land; they are hubs of nutrition, learning, and togetherness. By educating both young and old about sustainable practices, we are not only improving their immediate well-being but also securing a healthier future for generations to come. 📚 Lessons Learned and Shared During my time with these communities, I was amazed at the exchange of knowledge. While I shared insights on climate change and sustainable gardening practices, I was equally inspired by the traditional techniques and stories from the elders. This mutual learning experience underscored the importance of intergenerational dialogue. 🌍 Building a Sustainable Future Together We must not underestimate the power of our elders in this journey. Their role is crucial in educating young people and guiding them towards sustainable practices. By fostering this collaboration, we can create resilient communities capable of thriving despite the challenges posed by climate change. Let's continue to bridge the gap between generations and harness the collective power of our communities to build a sustainable future. #CommunityGardens #Sustainability #ClimateChange #EldersWisdom #YouthEmpowerment #IntergenerationalLearning #FoodSecurity

Celebrating a 2024 Highlight: Restoring Habitats for Monarch Butterflies 🦋 This year, we united communities from NYC to LA to support monarch butterflies—pollinators critical to our ecosystems and food systems. Together, we took action to combat habitat loss and give these incredible butterflies a chance to thrive. 🌆 In New York City, over 600 seed bombs were made and scattered across parks and urban spaces, planting nectar-rich wildflowers to sustain monarchs during their migration. In partnership with hypha network, chilli, Ancient Future Labs, and Nowadays On Earth. 🌴 In Los Angeles, we planted a milkweed corridor with our friends at The Nest Hollywood, providing the only plant where monarchs can lay their eggs and a vital resource for their survival. Why does this matter? Monarchs migrate up to 3,000 miles every year, but habitat loss is pushing them to the brink. By creating biodiverse habitats in our cities, we’re building critical waypoints to support their journey. Without milkweed, monarchs can’t reproduce. Urban habitats can make all the difference in their survival. 🎉 Thank you to everyone who joined us! Your efforts are proof that small actions can lead to big change. Let’s keep this momentum going in 2025! 🌱 Interested in making a difference? Learn how to restore habitats in your community at earthed.co.

This week, we got into the first focus session for the 2024 Living Future Institute of Australia Accreditation + Regional Intensive Course! Co-facilitators Samantha, Laura & Stephen got to meet another awesome cohort of participants and explore the ‘Place’ and ‘Beauty’ Petals of the Living Building Challenge. These are two of Sam’s favourite categories, which require teams to consider fun (and important) things like; regenerating ecologies of place, protecting land for species other than humans, integrating biophilic design, and educating and inspiring others. 🌱 Do you have a favourite Living Building Challenge Petal? #Done #ProjectPlanningandDelivery #RegenerativePractice #ProjectManagement #Connection #Community #Collaboration #LivingBuildingChallenge

Starhawk’s Social Permaculture Principles offer us a roadmap for building communities that not only thrive but also uplift every individual within them. 💚It starts with the understanding that abundance isn’t about resources alone; it springs from the relationships we nurture. 🌿By recognizing and working with the patterns in our societies, we can address issues at their roots, rather than merely treating symptoms. 🌾One powerful insight is the idea that “feeding what you want to grow” is more impactful than simply trying to eliminate what you don’t. It’s about focusing on positive action, encouraging growth in the right directions, and fostering environments where diversity isn’t just present but functional and valued. 🌍Diversity brings a richness of perspectives and solutions that no one person could achieve alone. It’s in the conversations, the shared experiences, and the collective problem-solving where real change happens. 🌿Creativity is another principle that should never be underestimated. It’s an unlimited resource, always available to help us break through the challenges that seem insurmountable. 🤝Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the principle of developing a culture rooted in respect, kindness, and trust. It’s simple, yet profoundly powerful. In moments of fear or survival, these values might feel secondary, but they are the glue that holds a community together 💚 Let’s take these principles to heart and work together to build communities that are not just sustainable but regenerative, where every action contributes to a thriving, connected ecosystem of people and place. 🌱 Learn more at the link in the comments 👇🏼 #RegenerativeLiving #HolisticLifestyle #BalancedLife #ImpactDriven #CommunityLiving #CooperativeCulture #WellbeingAtWork #CircularEconomy Image Credit: Starhawk's Facebook
