In my career journey, I have ventured through three distinct industries: hospitality, aged care, and now, the legal industry. Each chapter has gifted me invaluable lessons and shaped my professional journey in profound ways. Hospitality was my home for over 15 years, where I immersed myself in various roles before finding my niche in management and wedding coordination. It was a whirlwind of joy, forging lifelong friendships, and even meeting my life partner. However, the relentless pressure, stress, and grueling hours underscored the need for change. The industry's undervaluation of its workforce became glaringly apparent, prompting me to seek greener pastures. The COVID-19 pandemic upheaval drew me towards working in aged care. Joining the facility that my Mum managed, I began humbly in the kitchen, but swiftly transitioned to an administrative role, providing support to residents and families during lockdowns via FaceTimes and other forms of communication. The contrast to hospitality was stark – here, the emphasis on union advocacy ensured fair treatment for hardworking nurses, a departure from the norm in my previous domain. Witnessing the profound impact of simple acts of kindness on the elderly, particularly those battling dementia, ignited a newfound passion for making a tangible difference in their lives. Now, as a practicing solicitor in New South Wales, I find myself reflecting on the serendipitous path that led me here. While still very new to this industry, I am steadfast in my belief that my journey through hospitality and aged care has endowed me with a unique blend of skills and values essential to excel in the legal arena. Drawing from my work ethic learned in the fast-paced world of hospitality and my compassion nurtured in aged care, I am determined to serve a diverse range of clients with integrity and empathy. If you're considering a career change, I strongly advise taking the leap, no matter how challenging it may seem. Even if things don't unfold as planned, the experience will be invaluable.

Happy National Administrative Professionals' Day to all my fellow Admins out there! My first admin "job" was helping to fold and stuff envelopes for my Mom when I was about 12 years old. It meant a lot to me that she trusted me to help with these types of tasks, and it was one of many things that led to my wanting to be a helper no matter what field of work I pursued as a young adult. I am thankful that my parents raised my brother and I to be considerate, empathetic, and kind. This meant stacking our plates and cups at the end of the table when dining out, treating others with respect and acceptance, and to complete work with humility and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Being an admin means that you often work in the background, setting up the people that you assist for success. This is not an easy task! You have to be able to adjust to different personality styles, foresee needs before they become apparent, be detail-oriented, organized, patient, efficient, trustworthy, have excellent communication skills, and when you are client-facing, you have to be a positive representation of the company or organization that you are employed by. I'm grateful that I knew from a young age that these skills would be part of what would make my life fulfilling. That being said, have I been all of these things in every role that I've had in my career? Absolutely not. What I have tried, sometimes better than others, is to approach my career and personal life with what Christians call a "servants heart." I've attempted to be someone who puts the needs of others before my own, not for my own personal gain but to make others feel supported and cared for. Now that I have three daughters of my own, these attributes are even more important to me. My hope is that they'll also want to be helpers, personally and professionally, as they journey through life. For now, this means that we stack our plates and cups at the end of the table when dining out, because every person has value, is deserving of help, and every little bit of help we put into this world makes it better.

This is why I love my job! A few months ago, I had the pleasure of working with a doctor eager to begin locum work in Tasmania, with a personal goal of experiencing the Southern Lights (More officially the Aurora Australis). After securing the first locum contract and planning for the best time of year, we were unsuccessful… But locum life has its surprises! After securing a second locum contract in Tasmania a couple of months later, I received this breathtaking photo late one evening, the Aurora shining over St Marys in Tasmania! Being a recruiter isn’t just about connecting people with job opportunities; it’s about helping them achieve their personal ambitions as well.
