🎉Last year marked the 10th anniversary of the European Urban Resilience Forum (#EURESFO) in #ICLEIMember Cascais (Portugal). Curious about the insights and outcomes of this landmark event? Read the full report on the 2023 European Urban Resilience Forum below! 📰 ICLEI, together with the European Environment Agency and partners, brought together over 100 speakers and 350 participants from 44 countries to tackle challenges on #UrbanResilience. Featuring 40+ sessions and workshops, participants delved into the impacts of #climatechange, innovative #governance models, and #funding schemes for multi-hazard scenarios and adaptation projects. So what's in it for you? Cities can learn about recommendations for urban resilience strategies, highlighting: 🌳 the importance of adopting multifunctional green areas and data-driven retrofits to enhance climate resilience 🤝 the value of community engagement 💶 innovative financing mechanisms, such as private investments and parametric insurance products, to support sustainable urban development. 🚄🏙 On my way to the Federal Congress on #UrbanDevelopmentPolicy in #Heidelberg! The theme of this 17th congress is ”Cooperation in urban development - alliances for the common good”   🤝🌏 This motto resonates deeply with me. In today’s world, where rapid urbanization, climate change, and social conflicts are pressing concerns, international cooperation has never been more critical.   💬💡It is imperative that we share knowledge, expertise, and best practices, learning from one another as we seek to build cities that are not only prosperous but also #equitable, #green, and #resilient. I am looking forward to discussing with our partners from all over the world how strong alliances in urban development can help to create a more promising urban future.    🌐As an partner for national urban development policies Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbHs strength is the implementation and support in partner countries. For this reason, I am especially looking forward to a series of international events supported by GIZ projects such as:   📌🕑(September 17th, 2pm): The International Side Event: "From Local to Global: Cooperation in Urban Development in an International Context": Learn from inspiring examples of #BMWSB‘s international peer-learning networks (D4UC) in #UrbanDevelopment, featuring innovative pecha kuchas from the US, #Ukraine and South Africa, followed by an interactive fishbowl discussion.   📌🕚(September 18th, 11am): The International Arena as walkshop: "The Power of Cities in the Transformative Reconstruction of Ukraine": Explore the role of urban development cooperation in Ukraine's municipal reconstruction efforts, with a walkshop in Heidelberg’s new „Bahnstadt“ disctrict. The focus lies on resilient neighborhoods and social housing and is based on results of this year's #UkraineRecoveryConference in Berlin. Sharing good practices carried out by cities can be important for promoting a concrete idea of Europe, which is now more needed than ever. The URBACT Call for Good Practices is open until 30 June, looking for impactful, participatory, integrated and relevant practices for the European Union. This call is stimulating elected representatives and civic officials to valorize actions of sustainable urban development carried out at local level, scouting for innovative solutions that made an impact and can be transferred elsewhere. Succesful practices such as the community gardens of Rome, the school canteens with local organic food of Mouans Sartoux, the gender-friendly city strategy of Umeå, the beekeeping scheme of Ljubljana, the blue economy competition of Piraeus shaped the debate on urban innovation in the last few years, promoting transfer networks and projects for their adaptation and replication at local and global scale.
