Is this the future of urban living? Let’s start imagining the grey water recycle, air circulation, natural lighting, solid waste management and faecal matter management. Well this is the future of urban living esp in affordability index and space maximum space utilization. Could we think vertical gardens for fresh vegetables and fruits? Planners to think about open green spaces? This is the reality esp with human population growth coupled with urbanization and Rural -Urabn migration- Time to rethink Urban planning is now #CircularEconomy #RUGS -Regeneration of Urban Green Spaces #Upcyling #VerticalGardens. If you're working in planning new developments/neighbourhoods and precincts why not try out two new #HealthyStreets tools to help shape your urban spaces. The New Development Checklist can be applied at the earliest stage of a proposal to quickly scope out how to ensure a healthy design proposal as a desktop exercise. The on-street measurement survey can be used on-street to score an existing street. All the free Healthy Streets tools can be found here: https://lnkd.in/euu5iGn8
In the latest edition of The Urbanist (UDIA WA’s industry magazine), TBB Associate Eric Denholm discusses his passion for creating fairer, more sustainable, and attractive urban spaces. He explains how the Healthy Streets approach offers an evidence-based way to achieve this. By designing neighbourhood streets with safer car speeds, these spaces become more welcoming for pedestrians, cyclists, and the broader community. #Gentrification risks #cultural and #economic theft. “For example, the café in question in and of itself has only instrumental value, its purpose is to represent #urbanism, it is an amenity of livable urban environment for the #construction company. In a way, this follows the logic of gentrification: the ones who create the symbolic value that contributes to the urban #development are eventually out-priced once the development takes place." To protect our futures, our towns and cities need to protect the life giving capacity of Papatūānuku by ensuring our buildings are carbon neutral, by limiting the extent of non porous surfaces (sponge cities) to maintain a strong connection between Papatūānuku and Ranginui, by revitalising our waterways, and by including landscaping elements within urban development that reduces the threat of extinction of our unique and critically endangered indigenous flora and fauna.
🌿 Revitalizing Urban Spaces: A Green Blueprint in Harbin, China 🌿 In the heart of the bustling city of Harbin, a visionary 80-acre park stands as a beacon of biophilic design, seamlessly blending nature with urban infrastructure. Through innovative water management, this restored wetland filters stormwater and reduces flooding risks. Elevated platforms allow visitors to experience nature's beauty while the park quietly works to protect the city. It's about time we took inspiration from sustainable design concepts like the "sponge city," which incorporates natural elements into constructed surroundings to enhance health and well-being. This is especially pertinent to India, a country known for its rich biodiversity, rapidly urbanizing population, and challenging climate. Industrialization and urbanization are posing a danger to India's biodiversity. Even in densely populated areas, biodiversity can be preserved by using sustainable design concepts that foster habitats for urban fauna (such as birds, butterflies, and insects).

🌍🌧 **Sponge City Model & Hydrorock: A Shared Vision for Sustainable Water Management** 🌧🌍 As urban areas grow and climate change intensifies, the need for effective water management solutions has never been more critical. The **Sponge City** model, which focuses on absorbing, storing, and slowly releasing rainwater to reduce flooding and replenish groundwater, is a brilliant approach to tackling these challenges. Interestingly, this concept closely aligns with the innovation behind **Hydrorock**. Just like sponge cities, Hydrorock products are designed to naturally absorb excess rainwater, reduce runoff, and enhance groundwater recharge. By using natural materials, Hydrorock mimics the earth’s ability to filter and retain water, promoting healthier ecosystems and urban landscapes. By integrating solutions like Hydrorock into city infrastructure, we can create more resilient urban environments that not only combat flooding but also contribute to water sustainability. 💧🌱 #SpongeCity #SustainableCities #UrbanWaterManagement #GreenInfrastructure #Hydrorock #Resilience #WaterConservation #ClimateAdaptation
