Malaysia Basketball League 🇲🇾 🏀 Malaysia is a basketball market that has gone through many changes of late. Currently, the top professional league is the Major Basketball League (MBL). Although this is a fairly new overseas basketball league, there are already some promising features, such as: ▪️BCLA berth (qualifying rounds) ▪️Good basketball salaries ▪️Good lifestyle ▪️Springboard league ▪️Good film ▪️Top teams such as Matrix & Johor The cons? ❌Slippery floors ❌Boiling hot gyms (no AC) ❌Few teams ❌Short season (could be a pro) Either way, Malaysia is an interesting market and one to keep an eye on moving forward! #overseasbasketball #basketball #basketballplayer #fiba #hoops

How Punching Above Our Weight Can Hurt Balancing Growth and Community in New Zealand's MMA Industry After completing my recent research paper on the regulatory factors affecting the business practices of global MMA promotions, particularly the UFC and ONE Championship, I'm left thinking about how these issues resonate here in Aotearoa New Zealand. As a small and distant market, our MMA industry faces unique challenges. Our geographic isolation can limit our fighters' access to larger opportunities and create barriers to entry in global promotions. But beyond the logistical challenges, there's something even more significant at play: the unique dynamics of our community. The combat sports community is tight-knit, where relationships are strong and personal connections run deep (in multiple directions). While this is one of our greatest strengths, it also presents a challenge when it comes to commercialising our sport. There’s a delicate balance between growing our industry and maintaining the values that make our community special. The drive for commercial success can sometimes seem like it must come at the expense of the relationships and trust built over the years. As I reflect on the global antitrust issues facing the MMA industry, particularly how large organisations can wield significant influence, it raises a critical question for us here in New Zealand: could regulation help ensure that our industry grows in a way that benefits everyone? Could—or should—we lean on regulation to provide a framework that encourages competition, supports diverse opportunities, and protects the integrity of our sport and community? In New Zealand, we have a unique opportunity to shape our MMA industry in a way that reflects our values of fairness, community, and inclusivity. By exploring how thoughtful regulation might support a healthy and vibrant ecosystem, we can ensure that our growth benefits all players—fighters, gyms, promoters, and fans alike. #inyourcorner #cornerinsight #mma #combatsports #sportslaw #newzealandsports #sportregulation #sportbiz #womeninsports Photo: View from our seats, overseeing the first HEX FS held in New Zealand.

This Week in Sponsorship...brought to you by Scout Get the weekly summary straight to your inbox here: https://lnkd.in/gV6KyU7U Deal of the Week sees SharkNinja APAC sign another naming rights partnership, this time with Bellerive Oval, which will now become Ninja Stadium! Why was this a great deal? Bellerive Oval’s audience profile is a near-perfect complement to SharkNinja’s current portfolio (A-Leagues Women and Men): - It further entrenches their dominance of summer audiences, through the venue’s extensive Cricket content (particularly BBL/WBBL). - At the same time, it provides winter content (AFL matches) allowing them to reach sports fans year-round. - It grows their national footprint with a deal that disproportionately reaches Tasmanians and Victorians, two of their weakest markets.
