🌟 Looking to boost your skills or find certifications and training programs nearby? I recently discovered CareerOneStop, and it's been a fantastic resource! 🚀 CareerOneStop, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, offers a wealth of tools to help you locate training programs, certifications, apprenticeships, and career pathways across various industries. It’s a one-stop shop for anyone aiming to upskill, reskill, or explore new career options. Not only did I find helpful programs close to me, but CareerOneStop also offers guidance on career exploration, job search, and connecting with local workforce offices. 🌐📈 Pro tip: Check your state’s websites too! I looked at the New York Department of Mental Health for additional support and found even more local resources. Many states have similar departments that offer programs, support, and funding information tailored to their residents. Explore CareerOneStop if you're on the hunt for growth opportunities. You might just find the perfect program to take your career to the next level! 💼💡 #CareerGrowth #Certifications #CareerOneStop #ProfessionalDevelopment #SkillsTraining #NewYork https://lnkd.in/eCKdFXRY

I started the week sharing an interest profiler that helped you look at your top 3 work personalities for your career. You should have seen some potential careers based on your responses. Thanks for all the comments and views. Today, let’s dip into skills! Many people struggle with identifying their top skills for positions they are seeking. Skills can be divided into 4 groups; and these 4 groups meld together for many jobs and duties. ✅Hard Skills- gained from education, work related training, certifications and hands-on/on-the-job training ✅Soft Skills- interpersonal and emotional intelligence. Think everything you learned in kindergarten! Be kind, listen first, have empathy. ✅Transferable Skills- specific combination of soft and hard skills that you have and you will use in your next position. Customer Service, Administration, Medical coding. ✅Marketable Skills- the money-making skills! These are listed on the job posting in specific areas such as qualifications, requirements or most recently I have seen “Who you are” taking a job title and describing all the different skills from above. ***you have these skills, now the employer has a money value attached in the salary piece. Many say DOE-depending on experience or there is a 10-15K range. Our goto site today is CareerOneStop which has a skills matcher. There are 40 skills that you will rate yourself on from beginner to expert! **Be honest and read the skill- think about that skill and respond accordingly. 🎉When you are done, you will have up to 🌟150 jobs🌟and your skills rated from Highest, Next Highest and Lowest. 🎉Finding your skills is in the purple or blue hyperlink to “see your skills” on the left of the job page! https://lnkd.in/gh-btSXt Let me know how you did! #comment #sharepost ❤️❤️My results! This past week has been intriguing. I've been participating in a employability skills course (2 weeks down, 1 to go) and have been assisting the trainer and a couple of co-participants. I've also applied for a job that a former co-worker I trained recommended for me, after they tanked their own interview (of whom is less qualified/experienced compared to me, but is an excellent worker none the less). I got a response saying that they weren't going ahead with the application and I asked for some feedback about my application. The following day, after doing a one on one with the trainer, she said "You're so employable, how are you unemployed?" I responded with a simple, "I'm handy once I'm hired, but just haven't gotten many interviews this past year." Within 30 minutes, I received a phone call back from the company that I applied to. I explained the situation and asked if there was anything wrong with my application or anything like that, given I wasn't offered an interview but my former co-worker was. "You're over qualified and we would have to pay you more in the role than what we have budgeted for." Would have to be the first time I've ever heard that. The main issue I'm facing now appears to be that I'm overqualified for some roles, and the roles above that, I don't have enough experience. Just needing to find that middle ground.
