#GCFDA Thin Body aka Lite Side, Thin Cylinder, Thin Glass or Thin Side. A body that has a thin section, characterized by the difference in the glass appearance in this area (the area looks lighter or there is a wave above or below the thin section). All glass container forming defects are explained on Glass Open Book (GOB) - https://lnkd.in/dMxKyd9 ◼ Cause: Thin glass is usually a question of temperature, for example; - the parison is too hot, which means the glass is blowing thin It could also be caused by an incorrect blank (parison) design, which would mean there is not enough glass at this particular area. NOTE: Thin Body is often temperature related. ◼ Prevention: SET-UP Check that the gob temperature is uniform, the 9 Grid should have a >95% efficiency and a delta T <5 degree. Ensure that the gob is not too long for the blank cavity. The gob must always load central into the blank that’s to avoid uneven temperatures in the parison. The final blow/ vacuum must never start too late, always before the parison bottom touches the bottom plate this is to avoid excessive parison run/stretch. The gob temperature and shape must be correct, - if the gob is too hot it will over heat the blank and cause loading problems (parison will get stuck) The delivery must be of the correct size, - right GD funnel, scoop, trough and deflector size Ensure that the blank mould temperature is even between the two halves and that the temperature profile is correct between the Neck-Body-Baffle End. - this is achieved by positioning the blank mould cooling correctly, especially important when stack cooling is being used (remember, air is not moving horizontal it always will go upward) Maximise the blank contact time, without losing the parison reheat time (the pariosn must always run at the blow side). OPERATION Don't over swab the blank mould, as a dirty blank will cause uneven parison temperatures (hot spots on the blank).
