Effective Group Leadership is a 2-day workshop which develops the necessary skills for group leaders to facilitate creative group work. The training covers the principles of using creative group work techniques and tools. The focus includes changing group dynamics, increased understanding of motivational group work models for change and the use of practical creative exercises. All participants receive a Group Leadership Skills Report on their strengths and areas for development plus a copy of Continual Change Groupwork: Being an effective group leader (2023) Edition 2. Effective leadership is a powerful phenomenon that uses a group leader’s own self confidence and belief systems. This workshop explores the belief systems and interpersonal communication needed by leaders to create vision, hope and a common purpose that unites the energy of the group members. The group leader’s subtle body language and self-presentation skills will be explored as they will impact on ultimate achievement of group members’ goals. Learning Outcomes - Participants will: * explore the use of group facilitation skills * identify and practice the key skills used in facilitating strengths based group work * use experiential learning and creative adult education principles * use multi-sensory tools to increase motivation and support change *respond effectively to group dynamics and how to promote individual and group change *practice strengths-based group work when responding to existing trauma develop skills in using flexibility in leadership roles *understand key tasks/attitudinal responses that leaders attend to in the group * develop their group leadership presence. Still on the how to be "Corporate" theme but this round on countering those office politics... At work, invisible contributions have ZERO value. So true. In the reality of things happening at the workplace, with multi colleagues vibing to grab that same shine amongst the few eyes of the Management Team. How do you make yourself be seen? Have you thought about this? Whether you play the game or not? The politics at the work place will get to you one way or another. Could you at least play up your own game then? yet maintaining who you are.... Have a think! Many of us have a deeply held view that talent and hard work should be all that one needs to succeed. I think what lies at the heart of this belief is that so many of us treat work like school. When we are at school, it is generally a given that if we work hard and master the subject material, we will get good marks and proceed to the next level. https://lnkd.in/gwWN9Bew Here is one proven method to counter the POLITICS- SELF-PROMOTION IS VITAL Make yourself and your achievements as visible as possible, projecting confidence and authority, and making sure you network, network, network: You have to become an invaluable conduit and contact. His first piece of advice, however, is to face up to the fact that this stuff is vital: You need to, in his words, “get out of your own way”. https://lnkd.in/g3b_YKxR Secondly, learn the ABILITY TO READ THE ROOM: The ability to “read the room” refers to the skill of reading emotions and being attentive and polite. However, in an office setting, the definition of such ability broadens, emphasising observance and improvisation skills. A person who can “read the room” will notice things others may miss. It will also help prepare them for any situation. They will know what to do and how to react appropriately based on their manager’s specific emotions or actions. Thirdly, LEARNING TO SAY “NO” at times is important There may be times at work when you feel compelled to reject your co-workers but fail to do so. The contribution of Pacific Values to the public service Sara Passmore shows us that the Pacific values of mutual respect, sharing, humility, and cooperation complement the values of the public sector. She eloquently describes how her Tongan values operate and how much they could contribute. Sadly, not only do these values not get their full expression in the public service, particularly in leadership roles, but at times it could “lead to conflict with the well-established norms and structures of the New Zealand public service.” A very thoughtful read. https://lnkd.in/gfj_J3Fz #pacificvalues #publicservice #publicsector

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔? My father used to advise my siblings and me that it is important to play the role of a peacemaker and bridge builder whenever conflict appears to rear its head. He would quote Romans 12: 3, 11, 16 and 18: “…Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment…Never be lacking in zeal… Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low positions. Do not be conceited…. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” There is a lot in these verses that I come across or experience in my interactions with colleagues in the workplace and organisations where I volunteer my time. My reading of these verses teaches me the following that contribute to bridge-building and cohesion: ✅ Not to think that I am better than others I work with and interact with. ✅ Being calm in the face of difficulties and confusion, especially when the going gets tough. ✅ Appreciate that everyone else is contributing to the welfare of the organisation. ✅ Relate to everyone despite their status in life simply because they are human beings with equal rights and therefore deserve to be treated fairly and respectfully. ✅ Doing what is proper, and not what is popular can win one’s approval over the truth. ✅ Being at peace with everyone, including oneself, and playing a role in bringing peace among people.

Office politics exist - there's no way around it. You can learn to leverage high-integrity tactics to navigate them and get things done or sit it out and deal with the consequences of not engaging. If you are a leader, choosing not to engage can have negative consequences for your team. If you want a seat at the table, learn to navigate the political landscape of your org. Myth One: You can either be a good person, or you can play politics. Myth Two: You can escape office politics. Myth Three: Politics don’t affect your job performance or career.
