From silence to Expression: The power of Drawing in Child Development Children express their thoughts and emotions in many ways, and drawing is one of the most powerful. When we give them the freedom to draw, we unlock their creativity and gain insight into their world. You might notice that some children in your classroom are reluctant to speak or are hesitant to express themselves verbally. However, when given a chance to draw, they open up, revealing their thoughts and feelings in a way that words cannot. This can be a powerful tool for understanding the stories behind their silence. When children have the opportunity to express themselves, and teachers accept their work without judgment, it boosts their confidence and makes them excited to come to Anganwadi. This positive reinforcement encourages them to express more and feel valued. Encouraging these activities in the classroom can reveal the stories behind their silence and help us better understand their feelings. Let’s give them the space to create and express themselves freely. This Anganwadi comes under the Palavee Project, where we help Anganwadi workers in the teaching and learning process through onsite support and training. 🌟 Day 3 of Our Internal Capacity Building Workshop in Haridwar! 🧒🎨 Today, we focused on early childhood education (ECE) during our workshop in Haridwar. The day began with formal introductions, setting a collaborative tone. We then delved into the various domains of early childhood education, followed by an engaging quiz on pedagogy to test our knowledge and spark discussion. 📚 Presentations and Discussions We created and presented on different ECE domains, enhancing our understanding and sharing insights. Our discussions then shifted to the physical development of Aanganwadi children, where we shared various topics and engaged in an open discussion. This was followed by an energizing session where we watched a dance video featuring Aanganwadi children, bringing a lively and joyful atmosphere to our learning. 🧩 Play Pedagogy We explored the concept of play pedagogy in Aanganwadi teaching, discussing strategies such as free play, guided play, and structured play. These discussions provided us with practical approaches to enhance learning and development in young children. 📚 Wrapping Up The day concluded with a wrap-up and summary session, where we reflected on the day's activities and solidified our understanding of early childhood education. Bringing you a series of #ECEMatters - where we will be diving deep into LECIN's work and its importance Anganwadis Are Run by the Government, So What Does LECIN Do? Yes, the anganwadis are being run by the government, but the condition is very bad in rural areas of India—anganwadis are often seen as food distribution centres. Whereas in all the recent National Education Policies, Early Childhood Education is given high importance. But according to our real-time work experience, 95% do not provide early childhood education or work on it. Only a small 5% teach rhymes, songs, or memorise letters and numbers. That's it. Here's where LECIN comes into the picture. We: a) Make the anganwadis functional and consistent. b) Ensure that anganwadis conduct regular play-based learning sessions in classrooms. c) Transform the dull anganwadi walls into vibrant learning classrooms. d) Train and support Anganwadi workers in order to sustain and run long-term ECE programs. e) Prepare children for school and ensure a smooth transition from anganwadi to school. By addressing these critical gaps, LECIN is helping to transform anganwadis into centres of learning and development, ensuring that children from disadvantaged communities receive the quality early childhood education they deserve.
