At a corporate affairs conference I attended recently, there was a session on purpose. For 45 minutes, the panellists talked about their companies' purpose and not once did they mention customers. However, we were told the social purpose of a consumer product group making ice cream was to help refugees. Ultimately, if a company doesn't create value for its customers, it doesn't have a future. At RELX, we create products and services that enable our customers to make better decisions, get better results and be more productive. Our products help researchers advance scientific knowledge; doctors and nurses improve the lives of patients; lawyers promote the rule of law and achieve jusice and fair results for their clients; businessses and governments prevent fraud; and consumers access financial services and receive fair prices. That is our purpose.
