As the holiday season approaches, Viscera Studio is preparing for our annual break. This year, we’re taking a full month off—a step up from the 2.5 weeks we took last year. 2024 has been a whirlwind, and we expect 2025 to keep the momentum going. That’s why we’re doubling down on prioritizing our team’s well-being, giving everyone time to rest and creatively recharge. At Viscera Studio, we’re proud to take a people-first approach, challenging the norms of traditional business and #hustleculture. For a couple of years now, we’ve embraced a #4dayworkweek, and in 2024, we implemented a self-managed time-off policy (sometimes called unlimited time off). The results? Nothing but positive. These changes have fostered a company culture that inspires creativity, boosts productivity, and aligns with our values. Our word for 2024 has been “cultivate.” Much like tending to a garden, we’ve honed, nurtured, and grown a business that can sustain impactful work without sacrificing our well-being. There are seasons to plant, seasons to grow, and, most importantly, seasons to rest. This break is our season of rest—a necessary pause to ensure we’re ready to tackle what’s next. On the practical side, this means we’re focused on wrapping up our 2024 projects and laying the groundwork for a strong start in 2025. Time to share one of our recent successes! We are super proud to share a fantastic adventure we organized for Deel's team two weeks ago! Picture this: 152 people, split into 25 teams, exploring Barcelona on an incredible customized treasure hunt! We began planning five weeks before "D(eel)-day", discussing the group's characteristics, wishes, demands and ideas during a video meeting. Our goal was to ensure the treasure hunt perfectly suited Deel's team and their mission to help companies go global and hire remote workers with their platform. 🌍 Creating a game plan for over 150 people presents its challenges, but we loved every bit of it! With a group of this size, it's imporant to minimize inconvenience for the locals. We achieved this by playing in small teams, each taking different routes to 7 different locations across the old city center, and only gathering everyone together for the final 5 minutes. The objective of the treasure hunt was to #SaveAlicia, Deel's latest AI system. It was an exciting (fictive) story, and watching the teams work together to solve the challenges was incredible! 🤝 Designing and delivering experiences like this is our passion. From the initial idea to seeing 152 happy faces enjoying the treasure hunt, it's what drives us! While this time it was 152 people, we can accommodate groups of up to 300 and are eager to do so! As we bid farewell to 2024, I'm pausing to reflect on a year filled with memorable moments. My journey began in late 2023, marked by a flurry of work travel and a significant personal milestone: securing a new home for my 80+ year-old mum. January was dedicated to her move and revamping her old house—a daunting task made even more challenging by the 200-mile distance between us. The year quickly shifted gears with a trip to Las Vegas for #AtlassianTeam24, followed by an enriching summer of STEM outreach with the incredible team from #Cern, bringing science and technology to festival-goers in the UK and Spain. October took me back to Spain for #AtlassianTeam24Europe, with numerous trips to cities like Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, and Hamburg sprinkled throughout the year. Amid these personal and professional adventures, I've also had the privilege of contributing to the Atlassian Community as an ACE (Atlassian Community Events) leader. This role allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals, sharing insights and fostering a supportive environment for Atlassian users worldwide. The opportunity to lead and learn within this vibrant community has been incredibly rewarding. In addition to all these experiences, I've been deeply involved in #Adaptavist's corporate social responsibility efforts through our #AdaptaKind initiative. Over the year, we've dedicated ourselves to various projects aimed at making a tangible difference in the communities we serve. This work has not only been fulfilling but has also underscored the importance of giving back as a cornerstone of our corporate identity. All this, while continuing my work at Adaptavist, helping clients harness the power of the #AtlassianEcosystem. Thanks to Adaptavist's remote-first policy, I've been able to balance my professional responsibilities with personal commitments, whether working backstage at a festival or from an empty house. This flexibility not only makes me feel valued as an employee but also motivates me to contribute my best to Adaptavist's success and to the broader community. What does remote-first working mean to you? The tagline from the summer was Science is Magic that Works and yes you can rearrange the sections of this sign in to other meaningful phrases. I just saw my cofounders for the first time! Since we launched Smart Role 6 months ago: → We have talked almost every day. → We faced every challenge together. → We gave our best to make this project happen. But Sven Gaubert, Tue Søttrup, and I never actually saw each other in real life. Building a startup is already an incredible challenge. But doing it remotely, split in 3 different countries, is something else. Whether it’s the process, the vision, or the priority, everything comes down to clarity between each other. Otherwise, we can't move the company forward. I think we’ve found our perfect balance between autonomy and alignment. But those 3 days working together in the south of France have been amazing! There’s something unique about being face-to-face. Creative solutions come up to a level of depth that’s hard to replicate through screens. It allowed us to double down on our strategic decisions for 2024. (We are going to revolutionize customer support!) It reminded us that while remote work offers freedom, these in-person touchpoints are key to keeping us aligned and energized. So glad to be able to build a company I’d dreamed of working for! Despite the misconception that success requires a university degree, many influential figures like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and others have proven otherwise. I’ve always had a drive to challenge limits, and my ambitions fuel big ideas—sometimes so big they seem impossible. But I’ve learned that if your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough. I’m excited to announce the launch of Assist-U-Studio, a Virtual Assistant Agency connecting skilled VAs with global business owners in need of streamlined support for growth. Assist-U-Studio aims to empower Caribbean youth by offering valuable work experience, boosting their confidence, and improving their quality of life. In today’s rapidly growing business world, Virtual Assistants are essential in increasing productivity, reducing overhead costs, and giving business owners back their time. I truly believe Assist-U-Studio can make a lasting impact, both regionally and globally. This venture is close to my heart, and I’m asking for your support as we work to positively transform lives and our economies.
