The #crowdstrike outage, the largest in IT history, is directly related to EDRs/XDRs whose methodology is to detect, based on constant updates, which in turn are based on information, knowledge, behaviours, rules and models from learned attacks. It doesn't matter if you rely on signatures, behaviours, learned AI, you always rely on learnings from the past to come up with new detection capabilities. Those learnings, and related data, configuration, software updates and more, need to constantly update the endpoints, servers and workloads monitored. Such updates are inherently introducing instability and outages, such as the extreme CrowdStrike outage. Only future proof approaches, such as Moving Target Defense, do not rely on any aspect of the attack, and therefore do not require updates.
