World Day Against Trafficking in Persons ‘No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms’, Article 4, Universal Declaration of Human Rights in relation to human trafficking. Human trafficking is illegal everywhere, yet it still occurs. Modern slavery is happening in our communities as an unseen crime in hotels, car washes, restaurants, nail salons and private homes. The essence of slavery is that of total control and dehumanisation of individuals. This year’s theme for World Day Against Trafficking is ‘Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking’. From Uyghur children being separated from their families and placed into children's re-education schools masked as ‘boarding schools’ and orphanages, to unaccompanied refugee children falling survivors to exploitation and trafficking across the UK, human trafficking remains untreated. Instead, too many UK policies criminalise survivors and abandon those trafficked to the UK, providing too few legal and safe routes and holistic support for survivors. From scripture, 'there is no mitzvah greater than freeing captives’, to forced labour camps during the Holocaust, slavery and trafficking are unavoidably connected to the Jewish experience. Our foundational narrative of a people led from bondage to freedom urges us to speak out, especially when faced with the inhumane reality of modern-day slavery and trafficking. It is so that we will understand that Egypt was not simply one place and time. It is any place and time in which people are not free. And because it is any place and time, it is every place and time. - Words of Rabbi Lev Taylor (2023) 🔗 Read our statement here: https://lnkd.in/eDbY73fY #humantrafficking #stopchildtrafficking #worlddayagainsttrafficking

In the aftermath of the tragic stabbings in England, riots have erupted targeting Muslims and migrants with racist violence. Looking at these riots, it may be confusing to some how an act committed by a non-Muslim British born teenager could provoke such hate and violence towards Muslim and migrant communities. This situation underscores the need to understand how certain groups can quickly become scapegoats, and how deeply ingrained bigotries can drive this process. It’s essential to critically examine the narratives perpetuated by media and politicians that contribute to the demonization of marginalized communities. By shining a light on these issues, we can work towards combating racism, fostering understanding, and promoting unity within our communities. #EndRacism #UnityOverDivision

Never did I imagine that 4 weeks into my new role (and while on annual leave!), I would be joining over 240 organisations to stand in solidarity with those affected by racist, islamophobic hate crimes, and barbaric acts of violence against refugees and asylum seekers. Many of the people targeted have already fled unimaginable horrors to try to find safety. Together we are calling for communities & the country to be brought together for a different way forward – one that's compassionate & united. No one should be made to feel unsafe by a minority of far-right, racist, facist extremists. Synagogues, Jewish people and communities are also targets of far-right violence. We always will be. Conspiracy theories that ‘zionists’ are behind the rise of the far right are circling. The rise of the far right on our streets is terrifying and the inter generational trauma we are feeling right now is sadly all too real. Include anti-semitism in your statements and extend your support to Jewish communities, colleagues and friends too. I’ve appreciated it. Love, solidarity and support to everyone who does not feel safe right now. Full statement below 🧡 “We are deeply shocked and devastated by these horrific acts of violence. Racism, Islamophobia, anti-semitism, and hatred against migrants have no place in our country. We stand in solidarity with the men, women and children affected, many of whom have already fled unimaginable horrors to try to find safety. And we stand together as a sector and with our communities to offer support. We know that these views and acts of violence do not represent the vast majority of people in this country. It is right that the government has clearly condemned these attacks. But we urgently need action, today, to ensure that local authorities have the right resources to ensure those under threat of attack in asylum accommodation, refugee service centres and places of worship are properly protected. This moment must mark a turning point, away from the divisive politics, racist rhetoric and demonising language of the past. Now is an opportunity to bring communities together for a different way forward- compassionate” #RefugeesAreWelcome #FacistsAreNot #TogetherWithRefugees

Following my yesterday post regarding UNRWA - if someone thought that only in Gaza UNRWA educates children to hate Jews and Israelis, and to fight them, just take a look of this video. This video is from 2022, interviewing children in UNRWA school in Jerusalem. And what did UNRWA's Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, as well as UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres – nothing, zero, null. BTW – does anyone have any idea why the UN has two separate 2 separate Refugee Agencies? One is UNHCR, the UN global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. They exist already 73 years, active in 135 countries, helping some 108.4 million refugees. UNRWA is established to do the same – but only for Palestinians in the near east. Why is that? There are also different definitions / determinations who is considered a Refugee. According to UNHCR “Refugees are people forced to flee their own country and seek safety in another country. They are unable to return to their own country because of feared persecution as a result of who they are, what they believe in or say, or because of armed conflict, violence or serious public disorder.” The Refugee status is limited to those specific people who were forced to flee their homes, and the status is not passing to their descendants. While According to UNRWA, the Refugee status is passed to the descendants for unlimited generations. This is a very good way to dramatically increase the number of refugees and to magnify a problem. https://lnkd.in/ddBVR_9R

If there are 15 million Christians in the United States… and 580,000 homeless people; 360,000 foster youth; 25,000 refugees per year; 3.5 million refugees have arrived since 1975… if one in every 3 Christians committed to sponsor, adopt and faithfully evangelize to each of these people, we would solve these issues as a nation... There would be no mentally ill, drug addicted people in the streets; no fatherless, traumatized youth in gangs, overdosing, committing crimes, filling prisons; no threat of our "Christian culture" being changed if every refugee was faithfully discipled, witnessed to, and cared for. Stop complaining Christians and get to work... Stop waiting for the State and President to fix these problems, we could fix this in a year.

SAFE is deeply concerned about the growing instances of racial and Islamophobic violence in the UK. This unsettling development poses a major risk to children, particularly those from migrant and refugee backgrounds who have already experienced severe trauma. As an international partnership dedicated to protecting children in families, we have a clear perspective on how hate and extremist rhetoric jeopardise the safety and well-being of all children, especially the most at risk. Observing the spread of such animosity in the UK is profoundly troubling. SAFE is proud to support and advocate for asylum seekers, refugees, and displaced individuals and families. We want them to know that the views of a minority do not represent us all. We stand with those impacted by this violence and discrimination, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to defend children, and irradiate racism and violence. SAFE strongly urges political leaders to denounce and condemn divisive narratives that threaten and endanger the safety and futures of children and communities both here and overseas. #ProtectChildren #EndRacism #ChildProtection #DefendChildren #SafeInternational #EndChildViolence #SAFE

United Nations Peacekeeping works to protect & uphold #HumanRights. When peacekeepers betray this goal, children born from misconduct can face poverty & stigma. A collective effort is needed to resolve paternity & child support claims. #HonouringOurValues #VictimsRightsFirst #HumanRightsDay #OurRightsOurFuture

✊4 years ago, we were marching, screaming #BlackLivesMatter at the top our lungs, filling our social media feeds to stand up against racism, demanding urgent change. 🧐What has been done since then? Has enough progress been made? Have we been loud enough in our fight for equality? ❌Today, the far-right is growing while scapegoating and vilifying racialised groups. Across the European Union, racialised people, including Black, Muslim, Jewish and Roma people are still discriminated against. Some even face extreme police violence. 🌎Of course, the fight against racism doesn’t end at European borders. Thousands of refugees and migrants are facing barriers, abuse & danger at all of Europe’s external borders. Thousands are dying or going missing each year, trying to reach safety. 🕊️ And in the last months, the European Union failed to speak up with a common and strong voice, even as over 12.000 children have been killed in Gaza. 🖤The fight against racism did not end four years ago. It has barely even begun. We must not be silent in the face of hate, and we must #ChooseCourage. So, we say: we need to #StayLoud. 📢✊

I will not be out there marching this week as I am attending another Palestinian solidarity convention on the south side---something that the #DNC could not have the moral courage nor integrity to do. However, I am grateful for colleagues and friends like the beloved Kennedy Healy for taking the time and passion to march for Palestine's disability community who continue to endure starvation, poverty, loss and fear every day. This week, I hope all US-based disabled leaders and advocates follow the path of true leaders and pioneers like Keneedy and shut down the lies, deception, and dark money our American government continues to destroy our democracy with. Just a week ago, our US congress passed another $20 billion package of weapons to Israel. The biggest package deal in our US history. It is truly shameful and disheartening to know that majority of our representatives, truly, have not and have never really represented the American people. Let's continue to call our so-called leaders to end the transfer of weapons and bombs to Israel that continues to kill and disabled Palestinians and Arabs across the region. We must call-out our AipAC-funded politicians to END this mass disabling genocidal war that they continue to enable with our own US tax dollars. If you call yourself a true disability leader, show your moral courage, show your moral integrity and BREAK YOUR SILENCE. #CeasefireNow #NoDisabilityPrideInGenocide #CripsEmpire #NoRecessForGaza #FreePalestine #PalestiniansWithDisabilities #PWDs #Palestine #Israel #EndTheOccupation

Can't ignore the suffering. The people of Palestine need our support. #StandWithPalestine The recent events unfolding in Palestine demand our attention and action. Reports of civilians, including innocent children, brutally massacred in Palestine by the Israel and Western alliance, highlight the urgent need for advocacy and support. As professionals, we recognize the importance of raising awareness and mobilizing support for those affected by the crisis in Palestine. Let's leverage our platforms to share authentic stories, educate our networks, and call for justice and compassion in Palestine. Together, we can stand in solidarity with the victims of this humanitarian tragedy. #HumanitarianCrisis #Advocacy #Justice #Solidarity
