✅ Day 1 of the World Passenger Festival 🌍 I was fortunate to participate in a panel discussion on "Effective Strategies for Shaping Mobility Behaviours with Effective Public & Shared Transport as the Backbone." 🚌🚇 🛴 🚴♀️ Together with Theresa Doppelbauer, Jaromir Beranek and Blaz Pongracic, we highlighted some of the tools, case studies and technological needs for shaping sustainable mobility behaviours. 🌍🔧 Some key takeaways included: 🗝 Convenience and habit are among the core drivers of sustainable mobility behaviour. A mindset shift only slowly changes actual habits. Any public + shared mobility experience needs to feel more convenient than potentially a door2door ride with a private car. But positive peer pressure also helps. 🗝 Cities and municipalities need to take the lead in designing the best possible mobility network for their citizens by asking the right questions, transforming data into information and sharing these with all relevant players. 🗝 Future mobility requirements in cities will be shaped by climate change and a growing population. But we still need to address some of our current needs, specifically of the ones that mobility solutions were not designed for (like everyone but men going to work and back home) Thank you to the organizers and to Harald Deprosse for guiding us through the conversation. It's inspiring to see such a strong commitment to improving our urban mobility systems and making our cities more liveable and sustainable. 🚀🏙️ Looking forward to implementing these insights and continuing the conversation - surely at one of the upcoming ÖVG - Österreichische Verkehrswissenschaftliche Gesellschaft get-togethers and events 🙌 #WorldPassengerFestival #SustainableTransport #UrbanMobility #PublicTransport #SharedTransport #Innovation #SmartCities

🌍 🚲 🚌 Are you frustrated by the relentless traffic in cities? Join this EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK campaign and organize a car-free day in your community! 💡 The European Mobility Week, championed by the European Commission, promotes a shift towards active mobility, public transport, and other clean, intelligent transport solutions. The main event takes place from 16-22 September each year, culminating in the popular Car-Free Day. 🚫 🚗 Car-free days are fantastic initiatives where cities or regions temporarily prohibit the use of private cars in certain areas to promote alternative modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, and public transit. These events aim to reduce air pollution, decrease traffic congestion, and raise awareness about the environmental impact of car dependence. By encouraging residents to explore other means of getting around, car-free days highlight the benefits of more sustainable and healthier urban mobility options, fostering a greater sense of community and public space utilization. 🔎 Check out these 10 steps to organize a car-free day and make a difference in your community! #CarFreeDay #EuropeanMobilityWeek #SustainableTransport #ReadingRecommendation ➡ Learn more about the European Mobility Week here: https://lnkd.in/dbrnA7DN

My reflections from the International Cargo Bike Festival Hosting the presentations by Karen Vancluysen, Giacomo Gallo, and Naomi Kloostra gave me some meaningful insights: 1) Public-private partnerships in mobility: Who should take the lead? Innovation needs to be guided by a vision that serves the public interest. That way, it can truly have a positive impact on our lives as citizens. 2) Designing Urban Logistics: Thinking ahead about potential conflicts between different street users before starting development is key to creating an urban experience that works for everyone. I think that this approach might lead to solutions that truly reflect the dynamics of a living city. 3) Practical Tools for Cycle Logistics: Arup’s detailed analysis was impressive. For cities unsure of where to start or how to progress in this transformation, having a clear framework and practical tools is essential to guide them forward at any stage. Although I couldn’t attend every session -I was also testing cargo bikes with my friend Jaime Novo—I'm grateful to Jos Sluijsmans and Tom Parr for trusting me as a host and for curating such valuable content for us all. To the Speakers: It was a pleasure meeting you! To the Organizers: I’m a huge fan of your festival and Ciclosfera also! Special mention to the musicians of WLDRF, who helped set a great vibe at the start of the programme. Any other event without you will feel boring in comparison! 📢 Better integrating #walking and public #transport is key to enhancing active #mobility. The new policy brief by United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, WHO Regional Office for Europe and Walk21 Foundation, which was developed as part of the preparation of a pan-European master plan on walking under the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme (#THEPEP), provides insights into how to reach a higher share of people walking and using public transport. The policy brief shows that better integration of walking and public transport enhances the popularity of both active mobility and public transport while reducing the use of private cars. In addition, it has a positive impact on: 🔹 #Health and wellbeing; 🔹 #Climatechange mitigation, with a potential to reduce carbon emissions by as much as 50%; 🔹 #Social equity, with people of various generations and social status using public transport and walking more often; 🔹 Public space efficiency and increased reliability of all trips; 🔹 #Economic vitality due to active and public transport users spending more money at local businesses than people who drive; 🔹 #City resilience and #fiscal viability.
