Sanjeev Kumar thanks for sharing the news about the International Energy Agency (IEA)'s initiative to prepare a roadmap to accelerate #geothermal globally. This could indeed be a significant step forward, and I am optimistic that it will elevate the visibility of geothermal energy in the global energy transition dialogue, especially for heat applications. However, reflecting on the previous "Technology Roadmap - Geothermal Heat and Power" of 2011 from the IEA (linked below), there are a few areas that could be improved. While the roadmap highlighted the potential of geothermal for electricity, it fell short in adequately addressing geothermal's crucial role in the heat transition. Specifically, the need for increased research, development, and demonstration resources for geothermal heat applications was underemphasized. Moreover, the roadmap did not fully explore the potential of low- and medium-temperature geothermal resources for #districtheating, which is a missed opportunity for many regions with significant heat demand. I am very hopeful that these aspects will be addressed by the new report helping us to harness the full potential of geothermal energy for its role in the energy transition. Echoing Paul Saunders point here. An #energy_abudance strategy seeks to maximize all possible sources of energy (and build redundancies). Same tack that #Azerbaijan takes in pursuing renewables/alternative especially for domestic electricity so that more gas is freed up for export.
