Our Toronto head office hosted a fundraising bake sale today in honour of the #RemembranceDay, with all the proceeds going to the Royal Canadian Legion. Thank you to everybody who contributed! But above all, thank you to those who put (and continue putting) their lives on the line for a better and brighter future for all of us. May we never forget their sacrifice.

New Ypres League The New Ypres League is an Ypres based charity dedicated to remembering the fallen of all sides in The Ypres Salient during the Great War of 1914 - 1918. Remembrance in the Ypres Salient of today presents us with a whole new set of unique challenges. The last veterans of the Great War left us a few years ago but remembering the fallen in the Salient is still as relevant today as it was in the 1920s and 30s. Although the Great War ended over 100 years ago, the Salient still regularly gives up its grisly harvest. The remains of over 135,000 soldiers of the Great War lay unrecovered in the cold clay of Flanders, these remains are still being recovered every year. Once the remains have gone through the identification process, they are reburied with military honours in one of the many military cemeteries in the area. These ceremonies and the sacrifice made by these soldiers require official recognition in the form of wreath laying and the attendance of a standard bearer. In addition to the burials there are many ceremonies that require official attendance, anniversaries of major battles, special Last Post ceremonies, visits from VIPS all of which require official attendance. However, as time marches on, and age becomes more of a factor, there are fewer and fewer people and organisations available in the Ypres Salient to perform these tasks. It is vital that the sacrifice made by the fallen in the Ypres Salient is not forgotten and that a whole new generation of volunteers are encouraged actively to partake in remembrance activities. With this issue in mind, I am proud to announce that I have been appointed a Patron of the New Ypres League. To donate: https://lnkd.in/esxr4XBH James Stewart-Smith Classic Battlefield Tours

The Erosion of Admiration: A Modern Scrutiny of King Charles III Growing up, I held King Charles in high esteem during his time as Prince of Wales. However, the transparency brought about by today's digital age has revealed aspects of his conduct that diminish that respect. This raises a significant question: Is the monarchy outdated and in dire need of modernization? While I value tradition, whether in Europe or Africa, when such tradition is marred by systemic abuse, hypocrisy, and double standards, it necessitates scrutiny. "Prince of pegging"? Perhaps not. But the prince embroiled in dubious financial dealings? Certainly. Prince Andrew's controversies now seem overshadowed by those of King Charles. According to a recent report by the Sunday Times, "Prince Charles accepted £1 million from the family of Osama bin Laden." This comes shortly after revelations that Charles accepted suitcases full of cash from a foreign dignitary, prompting the question: “Why engage in such transactions?” Charles reportedly felt it would be “too embarrassing” to return the money, despite suggestions to do so from those close to him. To his credit, these payments went to the Prince of Wales’ Charitable Fund (PWCF), not to Charles directly. The bin Laden donation, from two of Osama bin Laden’s half-brothers in 2013, was accepted following “thorough due diligence” by the PWCF trustees. Nonetheless, the optics are undeniably problematic. Further complicating matters, in 2015, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, former Prime Minister of Qatar, handed Charles bags containing €1 million on three occasions. These funds were also intended for the PWCF. The questionable nature of these cash donations, often in €500 bills known as "bin Ladens" due to their association with organized crime, exacerbates the controversy. Clarence House insists that all donations were processed appropriately and immediately transferred to the relevant charities. Yet, it is reasonable to question the motives behind these donations and the function of the PWCF, which supports diverse causes from heritage conservation to suicide prevention. But do these charitable endeavors justify the opaque financial practices? It is time to critically assess the contemporary relevance and integrity of the monarchy. #Monarchy #KingCharlesIII #FinancialTransparency #RoyalControversy #ModernizationNeeded Sources: - Sunday Times: “Prince Charles accepted £1 million from family of Osama bin Laden” - BBC Royal Correspondent Jonny Dymond - The Daily Beast

To all my friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances, today is my 10 week countdown to take on the Cataran Yomp. The Cateran Yomp is the biggest, toughest event of its kind. Every year, hundreds of Yompers gather in the Scottish wilderness to battle through the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains, walking continuously for 54, 36 or 22 miles over 24 hours. Based on an infamous long-distance military training march, it takes every ounce of grit you possess. And every single step helps our mission: to be there for soldiers, for veterans, for their families. For life. The Yomp takes courage. Discipline. Integrity. Teamwork. It will not be easy so I have signed up to do the 54 miles, and the hard training starts now. As tough as it will be, the main aim is raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund, as it provides essential support to soldiers, veterans, and their families in times of need. This fund helps with various needs such as financial assistance, mental health support, housing, and rehabilitation services. By contributing to this cause, individuals can show their gratitude and support for those who have served and sacrificed for their country. This financial support can make a significant difference in the lives of military personnel and their loved ones, ensuring they receive the care and assistance they deserve. So please help me on my important fund raising mission and hopefully we can make a difference to those in need. https://lnkd.in/e6mNdrU3 I know times are hard, but even if it is £1, it will be massively appreciated. And even if you can't support me financially, how about joining me on a training walk over these next 10 weeks, the company would also be greatly appreciated.
