Automation in electronics by IIT Guwahati? 🤯 👑Writing Professionally (1/60) 👑 👽 So, recently, IIT Guwahati has come out with a banger advancement in the field of EDA (Electronic Design Automation). 👽It’s called LEAP. (For your GK) 👽It is basically about improving the efficiency of integrated circuits. ...Integrated circuits? Now, what are these? Wait, let me break it down for you... 👇 👽Integrated circuits are tiny chips which have a combination of registers, transistors and capacitors. Thus, they are called “integrated” chips. 👽These chips not only help the electronic devices become smaller in size but also run at a faster rate. 🌸 This advancement has a major role in the $600 billion “Semiconductor” industry. 👽You won’t believe…it has reduced the runtime of electronic devices to 50 percent, along with reducing the clock period to 2 percent. Isn’t it a great improvement? 👽How has it achieved this? 🌸LEAP framework accelerates the mapping process, by automatically cutting down the less-priority configurations that the mapping tools will have to test, thereby increasing efficiency. 👽People involved in the research? 🌸Well, this research is the result of combined efforts of professors and BTech Students of IIT Guwahati as shown in the picture below. 👇 🌸They extensively tested 21 different designs, LEAP giving the best results. ✨ Semiconductor industry deals with electronic devices like smartphones and computers. Culture of innovation in India has long been appreciated worldwide, with special acclaim to its predilection to "jugaad". This widely populated mix-and-match culture however exists mostly in-silos, without any interconnectedness between relevant stakeholders. With the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, our recently published article discusses the urgent need of collaboration in the electronics domain between three societal pillars viz. academia, government and industry. The article further deliberates on how an agriculturally-dominant country like Taiwan became a semiconductor powerhouse through 1980s, as a case study. Consequentially, the necessity of job generation and investment in R&D towards realizing the ambitious goal of becoming a developed country has also been emphasized.
